After doing some google searches  - that part in the  rear rotor housing  just visible is some kind of Gearbox unit?

That is where we lived, right over or just below the trees. But sometimes we would go high as well, out of small arms range.

you see some of the panel lines deeper than others.......what I don't like is the raised flashing along the edges of parts.  I tend to scrape the edges 'square' before I assemble.......most times I can get a flush joint.  in some cases,  I take my xactor and lightly scrape along the mating, turning it into another panel line.   it does tend to hide and blend in the assembly,  so it appears to be seamless.  I trimmed a lot of this flash off around the cockpit on the Osprey so the dash would fit in there.   a good example of what I'm referring to,  can be seen in the starboard opening along the aft rotor tower on your Chinook.  it may cause the part that locates there,  not to be flush with the fuselage surface.  for some folks,  it's a weathering dream come true

Thank you Denis,   yep its taking a bit of  fiddling  to get it to look right  - getting there though  - bit by bit.

Good day all,   more work on the rear rotor housing  - I decided to completely  fill in those horrible  Huge  panel line gaps  and sand them flat.

you doing alright     there are very few kits out there that are perfect.  please don't think that I'm critiquing ........just say'in that I do a lot of that stuff in the beginning........kinda like a 'get to know your model' kind of thing.

No problem at all mate,    I completely agree  about the  pre-work  that needs doing first  - it helps having kits of this size  - more space to work on.

Outside of up front in first class with all of the windows, it is the best seat in the house! The view is fantastic and the air is fresh! Didn't you ever stick your hand out of the open window of a car when you were a child and make like it was an airplane wing in the airflow going by? Same thing only adult style and MUCH more fun.

Evening all,   right  the Wokka needs power  -  please find fitted One engine  glued and filled, the other one is on the other side but needs filling around the gaps.

Yep,   they are waiting for some wheels to be shipped over by  horse and cart  but have to go though the fields near  - yes you guessed it  Waterloo   then they can carry on with the building of the chopper  - there is a mixed bag of  soldiers inside sitting it out playing cards  - French Infantry, KGL  snipers , British  Infantry  and even a few cuirassiers    but without the horses   - the horses are in one of the aircraft hangers  sharing some  freeze dried  hay  and  condensed water pelets,

With the long history of the CH and it's use all over the world, I would be willing to bet that at one time or another somewhere in the world it has been used as a flying horse trailer. I know that one time we carried chickens on our Huey.

Indeed Lou,      quite a useful tool it is  - I  know  it can carry a jeep  and trailor inside with the seats up.

Had buddy in Herks in SVN. He picked up a bunch of Hmong one day and they decided to build a fire in the cargo bay to make lunch. Needless to say, our guys got a little tense.

I believe the service ceiling is rated at 20,000 feet. I don't know what the maximum altitude may be.

Yes indeed,  just googled it  -  same physical appearence   but upto date  mods on it  - they say good for another 30 years.

There was flight was a ( where a CH-53 carried an elephant.  From Wikipedia:   "One of the more different flights taken by the squadron occurred in 1968 when they participated in Operation Bahroom. This entailed delivering an elephant via helicopter from the airstrip at Chu Lai Air Base to the Special Forces camp at Tra Bong to work at a local saw mill." And if you're not believing, here's pics and two news stories on it.:   This was before my time there in 'Nam but it was considered a legend.

Pretty cool, airlifting that elephant. Mega tranquilizers there.

 

We shipped an F-4D from McGuire to a State Guard facility on the coast of New Jersey. My maintenance guys had to strip out almost everything to get it light enough to airlift. Basic empty weight was about 30K pounds. Engines were the big weight.  From somewhere, they got a CH-54 Tarhe or Flying Crane to haul it over there. The Phantom was in a sling setup and the Tarhe took off to begin the hoist. They got hooked up and the lift began. The Phantom was wobbling around and some thought we'd lose it. As the Tarhe got forward speed, the Phantom "weather-vaned" and flew fine all the way to the Shore.
