Sjors, 2.7 meter ceilings are energy efficient? What am I missing, 2.7 meters is close to 9 american feet wouldnt lower ceilings be more energy efficient, less space to heat/cool? Not that I begrudge you tall ceilings, your builds need them. I am still trying to figure out what kind of fall protection your going to need to safely rig those tall masts! On that note can you imagine if OSHA existed in the 17-18 centuries? "All ratline shall have a certified fall arrest anchor point rated at 5000lb for each swashbuckler engaged in said swashbuckling. 10,000lbs if saving a damsel in distress"  FYI for those outside of the US, OSHA is the beuarocratic nightmare forced upon those of us engaged in any kind of business here in the states.

Yes Cornwall model boats now have the two club Occre kits San Illdefonso and Nuestra Senora Del Pilar. Sadly however the most beautiful ship of all, the Principe De Asturias is nowhere to be seen :(

@ Sam,

they are thinking that a high ceiling brings the heat and cold up.....

But in the summer it is still hot in the house ( flat roof ) and in the winter it is still cold when I don't use the central heater.....

But it give me space with the masts.....

When I'm at the rigging stage of the top gallant mast, I have to put her on the floor  :P  :P  :P

And what you are saying at the other lines is for me Chinees....Sorry.

And I mean from the part OSHA !

@ Demonborger,

I have seen the Principe De Austurias but i don't no where anymore :( .

It's a lovely ship and I keep a close eye on that one.

I hope they bring it also out in the open !

Sjors, OSHA is the American governmental agency responsible for insuring safety in ALL work places. They have greatly improved employee safety. They enforce the safety regulations by applying stiff fines to offenders. The 'tongue in cheek' reference by Sam was kidding about the old days without the agency. I tease in the same way about the agency responsible for approving medications: I don't think they could even get aspirin approved today with the guidelines. :)

Great tongue-in-cheek characterization of OSHA regulations.  Would probably also include the use of supplemental oxygen for high altitude work :D

Yes Augie,

It's another avatar.

This is also in a bus but then at Portsmouth when we are there with Mobbsie and Grant :D

And also a little update.

The bowsprit has shaped.

And dry fit on it.

Now it is time to put all the blocks and violin blocks, deadeyes and all that stuff on it.

Also placed the figure head.

And the last picture of the whole ship with everything on it ( dry fit )

Sjors, Very nice!

Dave explained OSHA quite well for you/me. And yes it was very tongue in cheek. Except for the Beaurocratic nightmare part, the regs are there for very important reasons but dealing directly with the people there can be a test of patience and logic.

Now, back to ship building. May I ask what your method is for seizing lines? I just tried my first ever last night, and the results were less than I hoped for.

You seem to have a love for busses?

@ Patrick,

Thanks.

Yes she is big !

I have to be careful now when i turn her around.

I have to clear the table......and If I want to do something at the topgallant , I place her on the ground  :P

@ Mobbsie,

Also thanks.

Yes the Mirage is a good example how not to do it  ;)

And when there is progress, picture will follow !

@ Augie,

The spars are still dowels and in the box.

First i want to finished all the other stuff before I make the spars....

@ Andy,

I shall explain it for you again....

The spare wood is in the vase....not the spars !

And I have no piano in the house, only a ping pong bat !

And no, there are no flowers in the vase.( Don't give Anja any ideas....)

@ Robbyn,

Thank you !

I didn't know that my previous builds are that bad  :(    :P  :P  :P  :D  :D  :D

But I know what you mean and thank you for that  :D  :D

Any news on the Syren?

Oops, i did it again......

@ Sam,

I'm happy that you also understand what Dave is telling us  :D  :D  :D

Then your question....I have not seizing any rope yet.

Mobbsie has make a seizing machine for me and he takes it when he is coming in November.

Then I shall give that seizing a try !

I'll keep you posted on that !

And I love busses !

When i was a kid, I always want to be a bus driver....

For me ,it's not work driving that big thing but fun.

It's playing with it in the crowd traffic in Rotterdam !

And when I have the change to sit in an old one, I have to do that !

When I see all the luxury that I have these days, I was a hard time for those guys in the old days......

@ Popeye,

Thanks also !

And what is going happened one of those days......

You gonna build also a big one ??????

I think you do that one all the credit that she deserved !

Let me reserve a front seat all ready !

@ Wayne,

Also thanks !!!!!

It's just like the first steps of a young child...

Every other step goes better  :D  :D  :D  :D

@ Mick,

You are further then me.

I have not make any spar of yard !

I wait with those till the rigging ( shrouds, ratlines, back and main stays ) are finished.

Then I gonna make the spars/yards.

The mast also not glued.

I will keep them straight with the shrouds, then I can play a little with the tension of the lanyards.

Enjoy your evening out with the music of the sixties  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

Send from my I-mac  :D  :D  :D

Still at home !

I am glad you did not take what I said as an insult....probably should have found a better way to word that. But your build is much like mine, seems each step we get a bit more confident, and it is obvious we learn from previous mistakes and make improvements!

Ah the poor Syren...still calling softly from her box. I have been too busy grading papers this week, and working out an issue at school with a special student that I have had no building time at all. My hope is to finish my grading on Saturday, and have Sunday to work. Still trying to finish, the other two builds first. Longboat is getting close, and thanks to Keith (themadchemist) I now have the missing blocks for the SFII, so I can finally finish the last of her running rigging and put her under glass!

Do you think you need a piano?  ;)

I'd be careful with that ping pong paddle near the vase... wouldn't want to break it and have no place to plant your "spare wood" flowers... :o
