Great job Frank.  She's looking good.  Where did you get the table and figure?  It's a nice addition.

Thanks!
I bought them at Chris Watton’s webstore Vanguard Models. Though I don’t see these figures and table anymore…maybe and hopefully temporary out of stock…

Hi,

I need help. I have two questions:
1: It's not explained how to make the eyebolts that are drilled into the lid through the lid hinges' hole.
Is there a tutorial how to make these and how big should they be made with the 28 gauge wire?
Is it just a ring that let's the 24 gauge wire split ring go through with a little pin on it to be glued in the drilled hole in the port lid?
2: Where can I buy this  Japanese saw like the one Chuck uses to saw his split rings that go on the cannon port lids?

Thanks,
Frank.

Use a #47 drill bit....

Check here for an explanation on how to make those.   They are the same as the ones made for on the deck of the Speedwell.

Thanks Chuck!
That was a real quick response!
Now I only have to look for such a Japanese saw...
or try to use my Dremel motor tool and the tiny and ultrathin Chinese disk sander with which I made my scraper profiles might work as well?
Frank.

You can go a little smaller on the rings for 1/4" scale....maybe try a #50 bit you will know after you make your first one.  Use 28 gauge wire.

Frank,

After winding the wire on the bit I slipped the coil off and cut the rings with a high quality flush cutting wire cutters I get from a jewelers making website. It’s just about holding the cutters 90 degrees to the coil and cutting a few at a time. There is a little bit of waste for the first and last few, but I made hundreds this way.

I have the razor saw and it is useful in many other ways, I tried cutting the rings with it but was less successful than with the fine edge cutters. Jewelers tools are excellent for modeling, especially metal work.

I made the lid rings and eyebolts the same way as the ones on the deck but with 28 gauge

Glenn

I get everything from a US based website. These Linstrom  ones have proven to be best. I’m sure they are available at other places, I think it’s a European brand. I don’t recall where I got the razor saw, it’s relatively common and other than a round wooden handle identical to Chuck’s design.

Glenn
