Recommended Posts

Been a busy couple of weeks and I've finally sat down and done a bit more tonight, photos to follow. In the meantime at the weekend we went to the Midlands airshow...

Amongst many others the red arrows and the red bull Mitchell B-25J!

I was very happy!!

Cockpit nearly done, just the seatbelts to go.

Also the upper gun turret column and tail gun are nearly there. Next up are the bombs and bomb bay. My intention is to put 3 of the bombs onto the model and use the other 3 as part of the museum display but let's see how it goes together.

Bomb bay and bombs are now done and I've primed the fuselage interior ready for paint.

I've also been adding some additional weathering, grime and oil stains but not too heavy, to the cockpit and upper gun and tail gun assemblies. I'm quite pleased with how these have turned out. I used Vallejo's game wash in black and sepia thinned with some water. I think I still prefer oils but it's nice to experiment.

The nose gear that I bought built up very easily with the kit parts so that's primed as well. It has to be added before closing the fuselage and after adding weight at the front. It did require quite a bit of sanding down but in fairness the manufacturer was very clear that it would need tidying up.

Ammo.... Not completely happy but it's not too bad and will hardly, if at all, be visible, but I know it's there so worth the effort.

Not too far off putting the fuselage together now.

Slow progress, in fits and starts, but still very enjoyable.

A bit late to this party but just wanted to join in the rest with your build. I have a Tamiva 1:48 P47 that is in the very beginnings of a build and - to my fumble fingers is small with any 1:72 impossible. A couple notes - about 20 years ago while business visiting a vendor was privileged to walk around a B-25 as well as a B-26, both at an airport as a fly in trip for their owners - and unfortunately, no camera.

Hello all-

A little late to the party.but I noticed the  B-25 Mitchell build.     I primarily build wooden ships now, but for a few years, I built a sizable collection of WW2,Vietnam era aircraft ln 1/48 and 1/32 scales ..   then I migrated back to scratchbuilding ships.. The B-25  I built represents my cousin's  aircraft ,"Fickle Finger Of Fate" #40-2278. Omer Duquette was the gunner /engineer. He was the 12th plane off the Hornet ,survived the Yokohama raid, crashed in China, was rescued by  sympathetic Chinese, hid in a cave for two weeks then richshawed to Chungking. He broke his ankle upon crash landing.   On June 3,1942, he volunteered  to bomb the Burma Road, and his aircraft and two others flew in to a mountain in Lashio , Burma.. All were lost.

Another favorite build was the P-38, "Glacier Girl" . buried in the Greenland ice pack..   My Delta pilot's  co-pilot wrote the book..  Now what to do with all these models..

Here in sunny Florida, daytime in the summer heat makes for a very uncomfortable ride. Not to mention that almost daily we get thunderstorms in the summer as well. Evenings in the summer can make for nice rides. My favorite times to ride was always in the fall and spring. Winters don't often cause problems either as ours are so mild. What put me off from riding is our ever-growing traffic congestion and very bad drivers.
