Last night I made my frist foot ropes, not bad I say. After I made them I painted it and left dry over night. This morning after ll:30 I put it all together. 20241127_115852.thumb.jpg.21e61301caf1e4da21c7ed8907648476.jpg

This is as far as I want to take this at this time, so I put the spritsail yard and mast away for safe keeping.

20241127_120355.thumb.jpg.3d0aa06c5a3bce736de250780aeb786e.jpg

In these plastis containers  I have the fixing for four ship. The Duchess of Kingston, Pegasus, Bluenose  and an  Astrolabe.

So now the plan is to make the foremast  followed by the main and Mizzen.  Then start the rigging  from Mizzen mast to sprirtmast . That is the plan today, I have come to learn plans change lol.20241127_120854.thumb.jpg.85f984c3f01a5bb447962f4e406f2787.jpg

So now I have everything set up for the mast. Just have to follow the plan. The yards are all going to be hand sanded  and tapered 20241127_121358.thumb.jpg.c93f5991cc2ffe980455b12c00cc30c4.jpg

So tomorrow I will start the foremast and yards, that's lots of work right there lol.

This is just so much fun , the build is down to just the yards and anchors.  Plus the rigging  of course .

Well I started to put the blocks on the fore mast, but my brain was not working so I had to ask @Glenn-UK for some help. Thank you my man. I could not figure how many blocks on each side. 20241127_121358.thumb.jpg.953c1f573fe25afec6fc27670c33d57c.jpg

20241128_104543.thumb.jpg.95c5d08c0162467502eeafd427edc925.jpg

He cleared that up for me and away I went. Thank you .

Now the foremast was blocked, the main mast went pretty smooth. I had all the blocks for the main mast ready to tie on. It went pretty good, so just the Mizzen mast left to go. It only has 5 or 6 blocks, and one hole to drill. But that's as far as I can go tonight. Not sure if I can find anytime to build tomorrow, but Monday for sure.

Soon I will set the masts and rigging can commence.:D. Opps I forgot the yard work lol. That will take some time, but looking forward to it.20241130_184618.thumb.jpg.679bcb8f368e0025ae4c993d9bd779b6.jpg

Time to start  learning more about serving lines and what sizes I am going to make, what gets sized and what gets served, lots of fun.

Now that all the masts are blocked I set the mast. They  looked good so I glued them on. As luck would have it when I glued the Mizzen mast it was not setting the same way it was before I glued it. If I set it in the hole the mast stands straight up. I think it had something to do with the ring at the base. It was all glued up so I set it the best I could. It'ill do.

Today the yards are finished, and put away for the time being.  Now it is time to turn my attention to installing the shrouds and deadeyes.  Followed by, dare I say it.  ;) Ratlines.  Lol.20241204_180746.thumb.jpg.06a971da3284cc4e9a0d957a54888159.jpg

I started with the Mizzen mast, then move on up to the Bowsprit mast.  After that it was time to put these on the self while we get to serving some  shrouds lines. Yes just the rigging left and I am finished.  Then I will rig the Pegasus. :D

Still lots to do though, deadeyes, shrouds lower and upper plus all the chainplates. This will take some time but I think this will be fun as I am teing the shourds different this time lol. I am teing them the way it says on the plan. SHEET 11 RIGGING PLAN 1.LOL

20241204_190210.thumb.jpg.25bc2a057f3c6855317ca9b7d5970b9d.jpg

I will try my best at rigging the Duchess of Kingston, but i notice a considerable amount of excess shaking. Plus I looked  at these little blocks, glasses on and under magnification, there is a hole inside . It is a 2mm single block. Oh my that is tiny lol.20241204_185946.thumb.jpg.c035e32849d77873a7a2db52105c286a.jpg

So on the the rigging of the  Duchess. So many people to thank, everyone who has help along the way I am so greatful that you are showing me how to build models.  Thanks you.

Well I made 16 inch of served rope. I used a   .50 line and served a small thread on it. These as it turns out will be the right size for the lower shrouds.  The upper shrouds and some stays will be made from  smaller line.

Serving  lines is turning out to be a lot of fun. I hope I can make them look decent at least . Time will tell.

20241206_150033.thumb.jpg.404ab9df6f7ba88b4ab34fcbe8609831.jpg

The top thread is my served line the bottom  one is what the plan calls for. Sorry about the fuzzy picture.

I figured I need 8 lengths at 16 inch for the bottom shrouds and 6 that are 8inch. X 2 for the other side. So lots to serv. But I had to get the Duchess  ready. Let me introduce you to  Elizabeth Chudleigh The Duchess of Kingston.

1000006700.thumb.jpg.2d6ae2d962dcf0322685fe4f629cb73d.jpg

She is a looker, she flirted  with Mark Twain all afternoon  in the drying department.  Lol. Then I introduced  her to Captain Bert. Yes they hit it off too  , what a lady. Lol.1000006699.thumb.jpg.e414b86b465f37d7a10f79a602ae7391.jpg

1000006711.thumb.jpg.1c8e76a23e47ec79e2bba22726845652.jpg

I put the figure of the Duchess, for the display stand by the ship for now.

1000006703.thumb.jpg.e3286dd346c8648de0a14b8d1248efb0.jpg

And I put Mark Twain  on The King of the Mississippi  boat, he says he could use some company .Awful lonely  🙁  here by myself. Lol I better get to the build some day lol

So now that the Duchess is on board the Royal Guard has been called out. They almost arrested Pile till he told them who he was. Lol. 1000006713.thumb.jpg.8ab8ca8365d22b00de1d1cd7644fa745.jpg

My good friend @Gabek has made me a bag full of figures, 3 commanders and 13 crew members .  He even has a 12 foot yawl for the ships boat ready for me to pick up . They are just fantastic, thanks so much my friend. Pile says we should get back to serving. We will paint  some more another day. So back to learning more about serving  talk soon my friend's.  Thanks for looking in.

I had a wonderful day:). I served three different  sizes of line today, a .5 and a .75mm plus a 1.0mm for the shrouds.  Serving the lines is actually quite easy once you get the hang  of the right tension .Blue llines show lines that are served.

1000006724.thumb.jpg.ab0548ad17ac73dcfa77d797c4e52bdc.jpg

And soon I had lines of various sizes hanging all over the ship yard. But very happy with the lines. Now it is time to make some little jig for the deadeyes.  This is the frist time I rig the shrouds this way, and I am finding it pretty straightforward, I tied two shroud lines on, tomorrow I will do two on the other side and carry on from there.1000006727.thumb.jpg.8d2b0f7a6b077b0ceb124db07d66c7f5.jpg

Getting ready to size the shrouds, smallest thread I have.

1000006729.thumb.jpg.8374d7923dfa758041c1f13a96c6cae9.jpg

I have two shrouds put on, I will wait till they are all on then

straighten them up before I tie them all up the same size. Hopefully. 1000006735.thumb.jpg.abd7ffaa2377a75b848952828a5caccf.jpg

This just shows the jig I made, tomorrow the shrouds on the other side will go on.1000006736.thumb.jpg.be16ae007b981fb0fdffb821aa190f4c.jpg

The foremast shrouds are in place. It took a bit but I managed to get them pretty close.  Not counting the first two on the port side.20241209_192635.thumb.jpg.b4746dcb891a237fba54d3f6f9410921.jpg

Goober  set up the lanyard thread and the seizeing thread.:)

20241209_193319.thumb.jpg.09202237eabb69e7afebb123f65dcfb8.jpg

Two down. A bit uneven  but you know me it'll do. Lol

20241210_135214.thumb.jpg.4e6737dcdf1f05086be7dadef87641bd.jpg

Dang as they say in Texas, got the last deadeye on upside down and  the lower one is broken at that too.

20241210_113711.thumb.jpg.4e070ab157530d72e8c6dccb5ad2fecd.jpg

But the starboard side I like.. Except my seizeing could be better, I like that they look half decent to me.

20241210_133922.thumb.jpg.aee35e1f1e8b2477e733f8be3749f05f.jpg

This is one of those  moments when you say yes take it all off and do it better , but you love it because you did it 😏. If you know what I mean lol.

I know Chris  peeks in from time to time, please forgive my weak use of the force, I heard that in a movie I think lol. But it will get better 😌  on the main mast. I have been looking at the logs rigging is tuff for old shakey crew members like my self , and nothing looks like what I try to  do but it's the fun of it. 😆

20241210_134858.thumb.jpg.1dad4761f0b27f725ec69b523a8f7117.jpg

So the journey continues, on to a better main mast. And this will be the display side for the ship. :D

Everyone getting excited for the holidays and it keeps snowing  and snowing , time in the ship yard will be when I get a chance lol.

Now its time to switch to  the .75mm  served lines that I made. I am short a single line for the Mizzen  mast. Plus all the upper shrouds  lol, so serving  somemore, I almost could do some ratlines on the lower shrouds, lol. I will wait till all the shrouds are done then start the rats. I find it better to do all the rats with one shot.  It's such a great relaxing thing to do.  I can't wait.

The serving of rope G---7.5 mm20241212_131923.thumb.jpg.c6a09d501b9d3653ed424cb263527623.jpg

black thread, I figured I would need close to 15 feet just to be safe. I  took a .5mm thread and served it. It came out to .75 to .76 close enough.

Then I soaked all the lines in a 50 /50 mixes of glue and water and hung everything up to dry for the night.

The serving is going gang busters, I got the hang of it now.. I belive I have enough lines done now.  I am only  serving  1.0 and .75mm Also. 5 mm. Anything smaller  I am just going to  use what it says to use. It is to small for me to see the difference  lol.

20241212_183916.thumb.jpg.646931a9937e780c90e75a697b1c618d.jpg

I  even got cocky and did two five foot lengths of line. Once you get the rhythm going  I think you could go on and on. But winding five feet at a time is a lot of cranking lol. Almost as much fun as ratlines. Lol.

So rigging of the upper shrouds tomorrow I hope.  I got the stays made as well.

We got the lower shrouds finished, now I have to clean up all the holes for the upper deadeyes.20241213_151902.thumb.jpg.de35b2af43a006f9ce0a3dd1951a6bf5.jpg

These served lines are great I think. Once it's all done it will look good .

Futtock staves, one hook PE 94 seized twice.  And leave them two inch long thread with .75 black thread.

Made the first of 20, when that's finished we will attach the staves then the upper  deadeyes and shrouds.  Sound eazy enough  lol. But that's a lot of rigging, and the season is upon us so progress will be slow I guess  but very happy  with what I am doing.

Thanks MSW, and members  , also thanks for all who looked.

I started rigging the Futtock shrouds, and was looking at a few logs and said I hope I left enough line. 20241213_185646.thumb.jpg.b0f27ae330dfca8d0be454c8380b4189.jpg

Darn spoke to soon , grandkids are here. I got to go , no idea when I will get back they are on  vacation lol . But just  look at Gabes sailor  fantastic. Can't wait to get back.

Knee deep into the rigging I go. :) The Mizzen mast  went fairly well.  I didn't  install the Catharpins correctly on the Mizzen  but , how does that saying go, you got to make one to know how. The Foremast catharpins are rigged right.

The best part is I am actually rigging it according to the plan. The way I tie it and use way less CA I see progress in my builds.  They still are a lot of fun to build.

Goober wants to take it for a little trip, but Pile says NO WAY rember how sick we got the last time we did that. Let's just get back to seizeing Shell we. Lol.

The grandson made this Daintie  sever for his grandmother and ask if I could finish it for him.  Sure we can let use Tung oil on it , I am told that the best beside Lacquer which stinks lol.

He told me he makes the bottom then use a  3D printer to etch the bottom then he made the sides. Not bad for the little fellow, just turn 16. I tryed getting him interested in models but he is  hooked on his games lol.

Thanks so much for peeking in, and for all who made A Duchess log, I would be really lost with out them. Thank you.

I peeked at sheet 12 of the plan  stays and yards just try. Lol. It does say ,stays and yards Jeers/Tyes  . The crowsfeet rigging looks scary.  So I went back to sheet 11, there is still lots to do on this page, no scenes worrying about that just yet.

Talk soon my freinds, thanks to all of MSW.

The Futtock shrouds are finished, just have to install 8 on the starboard side.  I thought I would run through my process for the Futtock shrouds.

First I have all my threads ready , and put a hook in the thrid hand

20241217_211139.thumb.jpg.8adb576fb2577487b14d4176e3bd0be2.jpg

Some members can thread these hooks with out using CA to stiffen the end of the line. I can't, once in a blue moon one will go through lol. And I fined once the thread start to unravel its a no go. So to save myself trouble, I just add a small drop at the end thread it through and clamp it with forcepts , then two seized lines to it.20241217_212553.thumb.jpg.0be5fbcff35703d66187059825d32317.jpg

20241218_212509.thumb.jpg.dc1b728d04335629d5c79b1b900bdf0b.jpg

Soon they were all done, now just have to tie the last 8 on.

20241217_212801.thumb.jpg.a48efdf49fea19d59d9b6370d3e27fa2.jpg

This is my first attempt at replacing the feather , it looks  not bad at normal veiwing distance , up close its a maybe lol. I might leave it white , although gold might hide it a bit. We will see. 20241218_145823.jpg.89164121246b4e032557f6c617b5528e.jpg

The crew is getting  excited, just the upper shrouds and then dare I say it RATLINES.  20241218_123514.thumb.jpg.2c796aad2ad87283b211f86c4b27aeb4.jpg

I have enough  .75mm  served line  , close to four feet left but I can use it on the Pegasus. but I need to make some more .5 mm. This I will do after all the shrouds  and  lanyards are finished.  Then all the stays.

That's all for today.  The crew wants to keep going till we are finished but tomorrow is another day.  Lol.

All the Futtock shrouds are finished, and the upper shrouds are run. I forgot about the stays, so I need about 30 inchs, that still leaves about 18 inch left of the .75mm  served line.

Pile was concerned about the size of the upper shrouds line. A trick I was told a few years ago on how to find out how big your line is. Wrap the line around a dowel 10 times, divide by 10 that's your size. Pile says this line is .78 mm. Goober says who will be able to tell go for it. Lol.20241219_133942.thumb.jpg.de809edc337bc08f21fd3fdff65dba61.jpg

20241219_151643.thumb.jpg.5402759f599f50c83759f014ff047dfd.jpg

So I figured out what I needed, draw up a little plan and away we went. Got as far as only 12 shrouds left the rig. Seizing takes a lot of time, today I seized 8 Futtock shrouds, then put the upper shrouds on and rigged four lanyards  , that was a whole lot of shaking lol. But I find the shaking help with moving the Seizing up and down until it's in the right place. Lol.

20241219_151720.thumb.jpg.7e56409ff239fc47f80e671a6cbcc5eb.jpg

After I rig the rest of the upper shrouds and deadeyes, I will take a break and go make 5 feet of .5 mm line for the top masts and some stays are .5 mm as well. Then on to the ratlines, I will be in heaven lol.

But that's all I can do today, thanks for looking in.

So now I have to make some lines for the topgallant shrouds  and some stays.  I have to add the Futtock bars for  the upper gallants and paint them and I will be good to go after the lines are made. Lots to do in and out of the shipyard. But loving it all.
