Yam(?)

My first visit to your build.  Lovely. In reading the posts, I did not see the scale for this model.  Is it 1/4?

Thanx for sharing.

Hi Allen

Yam or mick.Mick's probably better as yam takes some explaining!

Yes model is built to 1/48scale. Originally published as an article in model boats magazine. Progress is somewhat slow but will hopefully be finished in a week or so. Time for HMS triton cross section then!!

Cheers ......mick

hi all

just a short update.rigging progresses but have had to adjourn to make some larger blocks , chucks only go up to 6mm at the moment and the rigging plans / diagram call for 9mm blocks on the spreading yard. a first for me as ive never attempted to make blocks before.

came out ok in the end.lovely stuff to work with this swiss steamed pear!!

still lots to do!!

cheers ....mick

You are doing a swell job.  I think your running rigging is a little on the light side though I could be wrong.  It is still not too late to darken them a little bit.

hi robert

youre not the only one!! spreading yard ,crossjack yard, topsail yard and topgallant.the first three all have lifts halliards and braces etc makes for a busy little ship and i havnt started the booms with all there tackles yet.getting to the end now cant wait to transfer over to my triton cross section.

hi david b

i think the flash on the camera makes it appear lighter than it actually is.all rigging rope is from chuck passaro. prior to finding chucks offerings i was using morope? which is great looking rope but a bugger to work with if you forget to seal the ends prior to cutting, but either are infinitely better than any kit supplied rope.i will have another look at the rigging in natural daylight and see if it would benefit from darkening.

cheers.......mick

Hi Pete,Michael,omega?

Thanks for the support. The riggings always the tricky part! Have enjoyed my first sort of scratch build, not a totally true scratch build as some components are commercial items, just a few items left......guess who's run out of rope again! Looks like chucks going to get another order. Looking forward to carrying on with the tritoncross section, and using my new Byrne's saw! Guess progress on the sloop will stall for a while whilst I order some more rope and do the work thing!

Cheers.......mick

hi again

two posts in one day!

some photos of chucks lantern kit under construction.

ive primed the lantern with ochre  brown from the vallejo range. it will be painted  "old gold" eventually.

i know this is probably not technically correct but the captain of the ship wants a bit of bling!

cheers..............mick

Hi omega

Thanks for the vote of confidence! Always a nervous time posting your work for others to see, especially on this forum as there are so many examples of exquisite model making. I'm currently collecting a supply of pearwood and printing off some of the larger plans for the triton full build.prior to that the cross section needs to have my full attention. However I do want to make another sloop , but one of the larger class. I brought Ron macarthys book several years ago and have recently purchased sloop of war 1650-1763 by ian McLaughlin,a superb work I might add, so I'm thinking of building HMS cruiser 1752 in 1/48scale. I shall use Ron's book as the main reference point for the build along with plans from the nnm.it looks like I've got some draughting to do as well which will be interesting!

But first HMS triton cross section.future plans also include HMS surprise HMS echo and HMS euryalus.

Cheers for now.........mick

Hi Mick.  It's truly amazing to see what you've done; as it is with so many other modellers on this Forum.  The crispness and attention to detail makes the model really stand out. In fact, so good is your model, that it wouldn't take much imagination to imagine that it's a real full size ship.

That's a credit to you.

Well done and all the best!

Hi omega

Many thanks. Its been an enjoyable build, turned out to be a busy little ship! Not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, there are things I would have done differently and hopefully better.....but that's for the next build. Time to revisit the triton cross section. Unfortunately I only have space for one build at a time. Lots of superb build logs on this forum to keep me motivated!!

Cheers.....mick
