Thanks Floyd. I also can't believe I am jumping into this one so soon in my modeling career. A little while ago when I was started to re-ignite the interest I was talking to my wife and we were looking at what I had "on the shelf". I had a partially completed (5-10%) MS Constitution (which had some shipping damage from a few moves and a daughters foot), The Halifax, Mamoli Rattlesnake, and a LSS Fair American. The wife voted for the Halifax because "it's small". The idea the Constitution was "larger" so it would be harder. Haha! She really liked the way the Halifax model looked. She basically said "every time we goto Baltimore you make me go see a big black ship with a white stripe (USS Constellation), how about a ship without black and white stripes." I read the instructions and studied the plans and basically "went for it". Basically I am crossing my fingers and hoping for the best... p.s. and learning form all the wonderful build here

Thanks everyone for the likes. Yes! Where would I be without sandpaper???? I did think about using some scale plank lengths but I seem to remember when I did that a while ago I did have some not so good results with the ends not coming together well. I decided at least for this one I would run it in one piece as per the instructions. Also completely forgot to bevel the edge of the planks... Thanks for stopping by Jean-Pierre. I did edge glue the planks together as well as I could but I forgot/didn't remember to bevel them. The instructions said to edge glue them with CA but I am trying to avoid that as much as possible and am just using regular weldbond. I will look into a way to hold each plank at same level.

Thanks Patrick. I always have a bit of trouble with planking because no matter how careful I am, it always seems to stair step a bit on me. But I guess that is what sand paper is for eh? Will try to get some of the sanding done tonight.

Getting back in the shipyard. Starting to plank the side. Needed to bend the planks so after soaking in a glass of water for a 20 or so minutes I gently bent the planks and then clamped them on this container 2 at a time. Laying the first plank and gluing/clamping. So it is much more noticeable now that I have the first plank layer, that the wale and the planks are not quite horizontal to the waterline. They kinda point up right at the bow. I am going to try to lessen this with a bit of plank narrowing by sanding on each of the next 4 planks.

I love the Pride. I am originally from Baltimore and love seeing her when I return. Never be hesitant to post. We all have had mistakes and things we wish to do better. The community here is wonderful and supportive and will help out at any time. This is on my (extensive) future build list so I look forward to more of your updates.

Thanks. After looking at all the builds here it still amazes me that some of these things are made if wood. The clean neat edges and perfect sanding are definately something to aspire to.

Setting flags - which way does the wind blow?
MEDDO replied to rodgerdodger's topic in Masting, rigging and sails
This is how I always thought of it. I saw this picture and the flag seems in line with the square yard. -

Oops sorry, maybe I should read a bit more carefully before i open my big mouth . Makes it even more impressive. -
So baby steps. Getting some time in and was able to place the stern side window. I planked a bit of the stern first. then measured for the window then..... ouch... and i guess it doesn't look too bad

Looking great. I really like these single deck brigs. This looks like a great kit.
