welcome back John- i see your shipyard is rail served too😉. how about gluing strips of wood at 90degrees to the keel with a couple of support pillars like in a dockyard? If using the pillars they would need screwed or pinned as there is a lot of weight causing stresses. Keith

I am debating at the moment if i should either buy the metal blocks for the steering chains, or attempt to scratchbuild them- as to the wooden drum - still looks better than what occre instructs. Keith

Really moving along now- really makes a difference with the more accurate stearing gear. Keith

well into the twentieth century ships would have electric navigation lamps and emergency oil navigation lamps- hence why you see the boards port and starboard with two lamps each- usually bottom lamp electric and oil lamp above. Keith

Progressing nicely Hake- and yes once all the deck furniture is in place the illuminators arn't that obvious- regards the missing one it is on the wooden structure the capstan sits on though it was removed for the steam vent pipe (how i have depicted mine). Straightening dowel ..... not sure it can be done to be honest though i have never tried to be honest. Keith

After a glorious first three days of long easter weekend working in the garden, day four equals rain so back to some more "last jobs" on terror. Using some blackened brass eyes from the kit added the empty davit mounts on the hull -Captain Crozier had the iron stanchions fitted at the waist removed but i very much doubt they would have removed the mountings. Still not sure what to do with that last whaleboat🤔 Also Crozier had the barge sent back, so should we have the larger ships boat there?!- also means you would be down to 8 boats as opposed to 9. Take care all Keith

Thanks for the comments, likes and looking in- what a glorious weekend regards weather (been wave after wave of rain, mist, frost, snow and more rain through March)! Spent a little time amid gardening jobs in the shipyard with the stovepipe for captain croziers stove in place and one of the whaleboats stored on the skids portside (still not sure what to do with other whaleboat yet)....... i think the end of the build is in sight😜 on my Endurance log i posted a pic of a pair of black 5 steam locos simmering in below zero temps and will repeat it here- shows what it must have been like when they were using the steam engine on Terror! take care all Keith

Pack plenty of waterproof clothing Tom! Cumbria is on the south western border of Scotland -the old county of Cumberland which was altered in the 1974 county boundary change forms a large part of Cumbria which was the first part of Scotland to be annexed by Henry 1 for England in the 1100s (no town, parish or hamlet from Cumberland appears in the doomsday book). i used a dremel with a sanding drum on mine Tom- though watch out it is easy to take too much off and whatever happens dont take any off the forward edge forewards of midships and after edge towards the stern. Keith

Thanks for the likes, views and comments everyone, i have been reading "The Terror" by Dan Simmons over the last week or so (the one the T.V. series was based on) and thoroughly enjoying it- back in the shipyard and we now have boat no.6 in place - not sure what to do with the whale boats... might have one on the skids port side and one on the port deck stern quarter? Take care all Keith

the two holes midships behind the foremast are actually pumps (occre messed up) and the two nearer the mainmast will be for the anchor chains which will go either side of the main hatch. Note the lower drawing does not cover our period though is interesting as it shows the earlier shroud protectors and the hatch off to starboard before it was moved midships like on upper plan for Erebus. About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
