Time for nan update. The first pic shows the waterways, rubbing strakes and haws installed. Second and third pics show the stock cannon and lower carriage, last pick shows the modified cannon, on the cannon I replaced the breaching ring as the kit one looking to thick and long to me, the new one was soldered on as well as the hinge, I also added the screw jack for elevation rather than use the stock wedge the kit came with. The lower gun carriage was made from a piece of walnut from the scrap pile and I added the eye bolts, I still need to add wheels to the lower carriage. All comments welcome.

Thanks guys, I also used the cherry stain on the stem, stern post and keel to get some contrast with the bulwarks.

Update time. I finished the lower hull planking, sanded and filled the gaps, and I gave it a light coat of cherry stain. I still have to do more sanding before I apply the clear coat. All comments welcome.

I like the fact that you are using so many different kinds of wood to make up for not using any paint, looks really good so far.

Thanks Alistair, I don't have a problem with the contrast, but I also like a painted hull, I think I will change my mind at least a few more times on weather I leave it natural or paint it, lol.

Thanks David, the bottom 2 planks on both sides have been tapered they are about 30% smaller than the full planks, hard to tell in the pics, thanks Russ I may indeed like the contrast no need to decide now still plenty to do.

Way past time for an update. I planked the outer bulwarks and got a good start on the lower planks. the reason it took so long is a few of the planks shifted position and I didn't notice till they were dry so off they came. As you can see from the pic one of the lower planks has a big difference in color, I think I will either live with the color or paint the lower hull. All comments welcome.

Did they give you the steps pre cut, if not you can make a small jig out of scrap so they all come out the same size. I built an old Constructo kit years ago, their instruction aren't great.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
