  1. You're building a very attractive boat. The clerestory mock-up is a convincing innovation.
  2. Ken, I followed your instructions exactly to install the windows and had much better results. Thanks again. Nick, It's always good to compare our different takes on the same model. Good to hear from you. Aqueous1025 and hoff00, I really appreciate your interest and kind words. I've been dividing my time between 3 models. I must be nuts. I haven't had enough progress on L'Hermione to post updates until now. I think I am satisfied with the rear gallery now. This is the best picture I could get with my old iPad. Subtle changes, but a lot of work to get them. Planking proceeds slowly, so nothing much to show. Beginning to work on ship's boats.
  3. Boyd, It's such great fun to see your updates. Your creativity and workmanship continue to amaze.
  4. The planking and nails look great. Since you are not happy with the glossy look, you can try adding a layer of satin verathane and I think you will be happier with it. If you want to age tha deck a little, try rubbing a lot of pencil lead on your thumb, then rubing it around on the deck. If you don't like the look of it, it wipes off easily. Otherwise, just spray some verathane over it to seal it on.
  5. I was thinking that it was too bad most people won't see much of your skillful interior detailing, but now they can. Great idea, and wonderful execution.
  6. Your work is like a fascinating look into dry dock after a sea battle. Thanks for sharing.
  7. Finally, oh yes, finally, I finished sewing the sails. Yippee, Yahoo, Hooray!! The sails are loosely attached for a test fitting. I am liking the look of her. Next, must decide whether to make the sails darker, then attach them properly, and complete the rigging.
  8. Completed boltropes on two sails.. Loosely hung them up for fun. Kinda wanted to get a peek at how Carmen was going to look in her new clothes.
  9. Nice to hear from you , Boyd. The sails have been so daunting, that I just had to get my hands on some wood again. L'Hermione began a little early because of that. I'm taking a little time off for some great science fiction reading, as well. I decided to go as far as sail making to get the whole experience as a novice. You may have noticed, though, that L'Hermione comes with the sails already made. I don't know if I will ever tackle sails again, after this. Here's the beginning of my bolt rope attachments.
  10. The next milestone has been reached. The sails now have their seams. Now to sew the boltropes onto all of the sails....
  11. Jerry, I have always thought that this was a beautiful ship that should be modeled. Your personal experience serving on her, plus your considerable talent at modeling, make this a log that I will enthusiastically be following.
  12. Owend, I'll follow along, too. I've been thinking about doing this one next. The steam engine looks fascinating and fun to build.
  13. Henry, Thank you for the correction. It makes more sense.
