  1. Hi AL and welcome to Model Ship World. Thank you for your support and being a sponsor of MSW.
  2. Hi PenombraET and welcome to Model Ship World. It is hard to recommend a particular ship model kit that is in the medium to advanced skill level without knowing what type of ship model you would like to build. I know a lot of our members are building ship model kits from Vanguard Models https://vanguardmodels.co.uk/ plus the designer of these kits, Chris Watton, is a member of this forum. Here is a link to the many build logs of the Vanguard kits. Maybe you will find one of their kits that peaks your interest. https://modelshipworld.com/tags/Vanguard Models/
  3. Hi Luke and welcome to Model Ship World. We look forward to having you onboard this forum.
  4. Beautiful model Ken. Thanks for sharing your build with us.
  5. If you are unhappy with the stain, I would go to option 3 and paint your Pram. You have done a really nice job on building this model. Check out the build logs of the Pram here: https://modelshipworld.com/tags/Norwegian Sailing Pram/
  6. Could you make replacement stanchions out of wire. Another option could be to make them out of plastic. Two companies that sell plastic are Evergreen Scale Models and Plastruct. If you click on the two companies underlined, it will take you to their websites.
  7. Nice start to this hobby. You seem to have inherited some of your Dad's modeling skills.
  8. Hi Valkyrja68 and welcome to Model Ship World. It looks like you are finding your way around MSW. I did a topic search and found two pages of topics for the Revell Constitution. Here is a link to my search: https://modelshipworld.com/search/?&q=Constitution Revell&type=forums_topic&page=1&search_and_or=and&search_in=titles&sortby=relevancy You will find that it does not take much time to learn your way around MSW. As far as questions go, please ask away as we are more than willing to try to answer them.
  9. Hi Mary and welcome to Model Ship World. I am sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. You have come to the right place to enhance your skills and build a ship model your Dad would be proud of. I hope you start a build log so that we can follow your progress.
  10. Hi Amphibette and welcome to Model Ship World. I hope you start a build log of your Santa Maria as we would like to follow your progress. I used to build and fly control line air planes back in the 60's and 70's. Had a great time doing this. You will do fine in this hobby with your experience.
  11. Thanks Derek, Chuck, Kurt, Glenn, Rusty and Grant for your kind comments. I have learned a lot from you guys over the years by following your builds. I also appreciate all of the "Likes".
  12. This past Saturday, the Richmond Chapter of the IPMS held their annual Old Dominion Open Model Contest and Show. I entered my Medway Longboat in the Wooden Ship Model category and was awarded the first place gold medal. I was surprised at taking the gold medal. This shows how well this kit is designed and how it builds into a very fine model. I also want to thank those that post their builds on MSW as I am still learning techniques and getting ideas that help improve my modeling skills. Also, a special thank you goes out to the manufacturers that are turning out some fantastic kits that allow us to build these beautiful models. Here is a picture of my medal. I hope to build a display case for my Medway and it will definitely be displayed alongside my model. Here is a photo of the second place model by Stewart Winn. It is a scratch built bomb ketch: Third place went to Lou Husser of the Washington Ship Model Society with his Midwest kit of a Muscungus Bay Lobster Smack: Below are photos of the Hampton Roads Ship Model Society and the Washington Ship Model Society displays at the show. In the forefront of the first photo is the Destroyer Escort Kendall C. Campbell that was recently completed by Gene Berger. The Hampton Roads Ship Model Society: The Washington Ship Model Society: It was a fun day for all that attended and I am looking forward to next year's show.

  17. It sounds like the Medway Longboat kit from Syren Ship Model Company would be an excellent kit for planking. Chuck provides easy to understand instructions for this build. Here is a link to the Medway Longboat build logs: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/77-medway-long-boat-1742-public-group-project/ You can download the instructions for this kit at this link: https://syrenshipmodelcompany.com/medway-longboat-1742.php
