Carl's tools for applying his glues are spot on. I like the Tamiya Extra Thin Cement with the brush applicator. The glue is mostly acetone and it flashes off/evaporates quickly, with little residue. Be careful with the glue fumes. I also use Testor's glue in the black bottle. Thicker, slower working allowing you to adjust if needed.

Hmm, most interesting build. I wouldst consort with yon Captain of Oz and see where this build doth lead. Where, mayhap, is the popcorn machine, that I might obtain same. I seem to have fallen into a front row seat.

Richmond, I'll grab a seat with Mark and OC over by that popcorn machine. Should be interesting.

Maybe a Mason jar? Interesting build, including a hangar deck in that scale.

Yes, relatively spartan, without the usual radar and comm antennas. Make up for that with the torpedo nets and coaling facilities.

Good news on the PE. I'll be bugging Free Time for it, since they carry the Infini line.

Not a fan of steel if it needs multiple bends. High speed steel Carl. No carbide, too brittle.

Top picture seems to show something on the interior of the vent. A very coarse grill work? There do seem to be some vertical bars(?) in there.

Started cleaning up the hull. And now Greg has shown some more fun drilling out all the vents. I'm going to look at some Plano brass roof-walk materials for railroad cars as a backing to add a little detail. That website is: http://www.planomodelproducts.com/boxreef_scq.html

I like the Brit fish & chips, especially in the paper cones. Where do the peas come in? There are a lot of interesting pre-dreads. The French ones, especially. Unfortunately, they are mostly done in resin. And not cheap.

OC, a little late to the show, but in nonetheless. Should be a fun build. I'll bring some more popping corn, too.

Finally dawned on me to limit using carbide drills. I've sent way too many into Never Never Land. High speed steel drills work.

Craig, may want to look at the pix Greg posted of the Seydlitz. He carried the nets until Jutland. They show in the stowed position.

Carl, that clear plastic used for the aircraft doesn't play well with our plastic cements. Don't know why. CA seems to be the best bet.

When I was based in Germany, a cross country trip to the UK was a treat. Landing at one of the RAF bases, we always wondered why all the folks were hanging around the approach end of a runway. Landed at Alconbury one Friday and went into Huntington to catch a train down to London. Met a few of these photographers and talked with them about their hobby. These fellows could rattle off where and when they had seen our particular aircraft and what other bases these jets had been assigned to previously. Good folks. 👍

Yeah, don't know why they keep using that clear plastic.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
