  1. Alan, I think once your grasses go on, you'll forget the ground paint. Nicely done.👍
  2. Craig, I thought your original yellow was looking more like a Corvette. This shade seems better for a Ferrari, although I'm of the Ferrari red school. 😉😁 Don't rush this finish. I expect another jewel. 😄 Dan, I've read that about a pink undercoat for yellow. Several builders of model railroad refrigerator cars espouse this idea. And it work well for them. Badger makes a pink primer in their Stynylrez line and Ammo by Mig sells it also. Mig's line is rebottled Badger paint.
  3. I believe the railroads in the steam era were conscious of insulating the boilers. Locos had lagging wrapped around the top of the firebox and it extended along the body to the smokebox, up front. The cylinders had vents to drain off the water buildup until the engine got up to speed, then they could close them off.
  4. Nicely done, Glen. We did a similar waterfall in a train club I belonged to. We got some shiny fluffy fabric to add to the bottom of the falls. Made for a nice spray effect.
  5. Vallejo makes an acrylic putty that fills nicely and cleans up with water. Plus, no odor.
  6. Welcome aboard. I see you have a building inspector supervising part of your build. Just hope it doesn't develop a taste for plastic.😄
  7. Excellent techniques, Alan. 👍 The only thing I could add is to make sure there is no white showing after the grass and weeds are down. Our scenery gurus down at the club use these same techniques for the scenery.
  8. Darn Internet bullies. very juvenile.
  9. Nicely done, Kevin. Like Andy I'm interested in how these carriages turn out.
  10. Yeah, we have precip forecast here for Monday. Snow in the higher elevations of the Smokies, rain around here in Hooterville. We can us the rain, but too much just runs off and only makes a partial dent in the drought.
  11. I'm in. Is there any aftermarket for a kit this old?
  12. Wow, they're about perfect tires. Very nice, especially for their kits.
  13. Sorry, Eric. I was just replying to KeithAug's comment. This was a Railroad Prototype Modelers gathering in Cocoa Beach, FL.Annual get-together, so it was like old home week, seeing buddies you only see once a year, along with guys seen more frequently. And having several good seafood restaurants doesn't hurt for this seafood fan.
  14. I'm in, Craig. The Riviera was a beast. It looked fast.😄
  15. Scenery is definitely an art. We have a few guys here who can dazzle with it. Our ice storm never happened, but we did get 4 inches of rain yesterday. And some passing thunderstorms. The pasture across the road from me was a lake and washed out some of the farm driveway that cuts thru it. The French Beoad by me is usally75-100' wide. Today it's a half a mile wide.😨 Luckily not a lot of wind damage; the wind can blow the pine-trees over and spray stray branches around.
  16. Your superstructure will be looking sharp, Brian. 👍 I think many of the international modeling organizations consider these laser cut parts as scratch built if you design the files for the laser cutter, such as what Brian did. Having machine cut pieces isn't an issue; who designed the parts is the key. I attended a convention over the weekend for model railroaders and they had a session on these laser cutters. Safety was stressed about fumes, ventilation and what not to cut, like the acrylics wefalck mentions.
  17. Tamiya primers come in 2 "grits", one is the fine primer, many of us use: the other is a leveling primer, which will fill details as Dan says.
  18. Bryan, I'm too young (Baby Boomer), but I had family involved. Pretty hard to capture the emotional stories of air combat on film. A few good ones like Battle of Britain, Dunkirk, 12 o'clock High, Tora Tora Tora. I hope this new streaming video on USAAF daylight bombing gets done right. I did similar stuff, at night, in North Viet Nam, supporting the B-52s over Hanoi.
  19. Interesting build. Appears to be "Memphis Belle", first US bomber crew to complete 25 combat missions. My hat's off to the bomber crews of both the RAF and USAAF for flying those missions in pretty tough conditions. Oh, and the "gunner" in the nose is actually the bombardier for these missions. 😉😄
