  1. Welcome aboard!
  2. I might have an ulterior motive for having an abundance of logs to peruse for this particular kit. 😏
  3. So, I ordered the 3"/50s and quad 1" AA from a vendor on Shapeways, and they arrived today. My first impression, made without my visor at hand -- just a lot of squinting, is that the 3"/50 mounts are good, but that the quad 1" mount is less so. The latter comes in multiple pieces and appears to have some excess material that may need to be removed. The barrels are also less than perfectly round. But I will postpone a final judgment until I have had a chance to look at things under magnification and assemble and paint them. When might that be? Don't know at this point, but at least I will be able to move forward with this project once I can get back to my bench.
  4. The pictures don't look that much different to me. I can only say that in all of my printed card model kits from that period, the RAF gray (or should we say 'grey'?) definitely has a bluish tint.
  5. Ahoj! My Czech is much worse than your English. Good luck on your project!
  6. Welcome aboard, Michael! That's a fine model there.
  7. I have apologized to my children on multiple occasions for our generation using up all the good music.
  8. It's difficult to say which manufacturer has the 'best' instructions, as typically any manufacturer will have some good instructions and some not so good. For some manufacturers, one can observe a noticeable improvement in instructions with each new kit release. And the answer to the question is also somewhat subject -- what suffices for one modeler may be deemed insufficient by another. Also, in some instances, good plans are what can make or break a build; good plans can usually compensate for skimpy instructions.
  9. Jim, may I suggest starting a new log? I know we have members, including myself, who would like to follow along on your project.
  10. Welcome aboard from one of the probably few American members here who has heard of Crewe Alexandra FC!
  11. I may have gotten myself into hot water in the past for sneaking off to build models when guests were around -- I'm not admitting to anything. 😬
  12. Hey, I just got the Cabelas/Bass Pro Shop spring sale circular in the mail yesterday, and after perusing the prices for bass boats and gear I commented to my wife that I actually have a modestly priced hobby.
  13. I'm really trying hard to resist adding this kit to my already overburdened card model stash -- your build log isn't helping! 😆
  14. Nice kit! I vote for doing the torpedo loading version -- it would make an awesome diorama.
  15. Welcome to the forum, Ralph!
  16. Welcome aboard, Al! As Vitus mentioned, your model is a four-masted barkentine (sometimes spelled barquentine), a ship that is square-rigged on its foremast and fore-and-aft rigged on the remaining masts. It is quite likely a scratch-built model, perhaps built by a former crew member or someone who was familiar with her (would be nice to know, wouldn't it?), which means it's a one-of-a-kind model and definitely worthy of restoration. Some of our members are knowledgeable about this kind of work and will be able to give you some guidance. Cheers!
  17. Wye River Models is a manufacturer we don't often see around here due to the modest size of their operation, but they do offer some unique designs, and we have seen a few build logs for them, which you can check out here.
