Hello Everyone, Price Reduction! About a month ago I finished a new ropewalk, It has increased my production speed considerably. The headstock's top speed is 12000 rpm... It sounds like a jet taking off but it sure does the job fast. Because of this, I've repriced my whole product line. It's not a huge reduction, The fact that all my threads have gone up in price and I was able to reduce prices is great. The polyester rope received the largest price reduction (roughly 20%) since the Gutermann-E thread price wasn't increased by much. In other news, work has begun on adding some new polyester colors in the future. I'm planning on adding a darker tan/light brown color for running rigging and also looking for a new standing rigging color. I'll post some pictures when the time comes. Hopefully, I can release them in the fall. Thanks for looking in 🔻Link to my site below 🔻

HMS Snake by drtrap - Caldercraft
BenD replied to drtrap's topic in - Kit build logs for subjects built from 1751 - 1800
Yeah, Every time I pick up my HMS Snake I get discouraged a bit as well. Lots of scratch built replacement's and aftermarket parts needed. You've done well despite the kit's limitations. If you aver feel like building another ship model look at some of the Vanguard kits. They have much better instructions, parts, and wood. https://vanguardmodels.co.uk/ -
https://modelshipworld.com/topic/31240-ropewalk-a-cordage-engineers-journey-through-history/ for those interested in 1/1 scale ropemaking 😁 To say I'm obsessed would be an understatement.

This is probably the reason why I have some people only buying my cotton rope. I'm looking into some options for linen thread. I ordered some from a company in US, we will see if it can handle rope making or not. Really well combed and processed linen thread is king, just finding it in quantities for ropemaking is the problem. Linen is what you will find on most old models. It can last for ages.

I've found two more videos. -
I have a video tutorial on sezings. He got me making them successfully in a few minutes. I can now do them now on the model without tools, just takes some practice.

Well done Dave! She's a lovely little ship. Where are you going to display her? Are you still going to build the rattlesnake next or has some other kit caught your eye?

Awsome! I guess there is no chance of getting Hornblowers followers Mathews and Styles? These are sharp and highly detailed figures, Even at this scale. I can just barely see the 3D printer marks.

King of Prussia by Iseaz - Corel - 1/42
BenD replied to Iseaz's topic in - Kit build logs for subjects built from 1751 - 1800
You managed to get really fair curves on her despite only having 11 bulkheads to lay the planks across. Is it single or double planked? -
Hey Marcus I've been building the Falkonet 1/24th four ored yawl. There are no written instructions, just pictures and numbers. If you get confused just look ahead in the instructions and you will see what needs to be done... most of the time. The laser cutting in these kits is really accurate, But at that small size I wonder how good it can be. How are you finding it? Good luck!

@Linda DOBLE Caldercraft kits are decent but they need a lot of work to look good. Occre are similar in parts quality but have much more comprehensive instructions. You might also want to look into https://vanguardmodels.co.uk/ those kits have excellent materials and instructions.

Cable-laid is for anchors on ships, you wont need it for your Dory. Polyester is the thread I use for making my synthetic ropes. I do have cotton rope but it looks a little rougher and fuzzy. Online only.

That kit rope actually doesn't look too bad for once! https://syrenshipmodelcompany.com/ Has some excellent rope. My store https://ropesofscale.com/ has light beige and Tan Rope. 1mm or .8mm would work for that Dory. If you buy one bag from me the shipping is cheap as I can send it by a stamped envelope. That is until the post service catch on that I'm doing that 😁

The 1/72 Mercury kit is on my wish list. I've seen people do incredible work on it. Probably not the best kit to jump into card modeling though. @GrandpaPhil I'll be watching along, I've not seen a 1/96 version of this ship yet.

Your first orders were Cotton rope (Tan tag) and the others after were polyester (Grey tag). You should be fine though, Black is black and the other colors I have are pretty close to each other.

Your rigging is turning out well! I can see a few spots where you have started using my Polyester ropes, They have sharper detail and tend to be more photogenic. Looking foreword to more. I'll be mailing you next order tomorrow. Shipping to australia has been really slow, So you should expect to wait over two weeks.

That's the color scheme I think we were all hoping for. I think that's a Derek Gardner painting. He does really good stuff.

replacement X-ACTO blade #30
BenD replied to Peanut6's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I use some 800 grit sandpaper before stropping. I don't remember the last time I bought a blade since I started sharpening them. @Peanut6 Is the blade damaged or just dull and rusty? -
The gun carriages are looking good. What finish are you putting one them?

You can find most of the build logs on this index. HM Bark Endeavour is in the 1751-1800 section. If you can't find that particular member you should at least find a lot of logs to help you out. https://modelshipworld.com/topic/17023-quick-find-indexes-to-build-logs-for-kits/
