I continue on the galion. Making head rails...
The years of wood betrayed me while sanding. It could be glued ..😵
I carefully place ..
I wish everyone a lot of success until the new year 2022, peace of mind modeling and especially health!

Thanks for the like.
I decided to keep the lion statue only in red, that's how I found it..😎
historical picture..
model R.L. from the Gdańsk Museum..
replica Duyfken..
I finished the head deck frame. Again, I came across different dimensions of the drawing of a lion statue on the plan sheets ..😵
I had to lower the lion's back..
This is the size of a lion statue ..
Now the statue will fit under the head deck..

I finally found time to shape a lion. I studied carving a bit, a little lion anatomy. And he started.
Workplace supplemented with photos of a Lion replica Batavia..Beech is probably not an ideal wood for carving, but the figure will be painted, so maybe it doesn't matter so much. I had no other hardwood.
Gradual shaping of anatomy by milling machine..⚒️
There will still be a lot of shaping, but the proportions fit..🤯

Greetings and thank you!!!
The production of ornaments began ... My plan was to first try to sculpt the wood and, if that didn't work, to create the sculptures out of clay.
I started with wood and ....... it works.Catheads foreheads first created. Here's the face.
And when it worked, I continued with the already prepared Chesstree posts..

Ondras, you are moving at a fast and furious clip, without any sacrifice in quality. I love all the detail - particularly the scarfing of the stem - NICE! Thank you for bringing to my attention this Barent’s ship replica project. I will look that up - looks fascinating.
I’m not sure what to say about the pinrail issue on early 17th century vessels, other than perhaps Vasa is your best guide. When in doubt, personally, I like to fall back on the Van de Veldes for the clarity of their drawings.

Peter van de Velde was born in Flanders and lived from 1634 till 1723/4.
Thank you. I already know that a ship from this period will not have many credible sources and images. But I enjoy the building!
So far, I've just waxed the balcony..
I prepared beams for catheads. I will be the first to make the most demanding. Faces on foreheads..
The first is rough. He starts to smile..

Created the basis of the balcony. Knee production combined with the production of knees under the aft deck..
I was milling my knees. I made a milling machine from a nail. According to the Russian style, which works..
The boat went up the keel for the last time. Knees located..
Before waxing..
I'm thinking of putting the railing down at the end of the hull, it will be fragile..🤯😲

Thank you very much Silverman. Thanks for the like!
😇
I have been thinking for a long time about finishing the connection of the front stem according to Witsen..
Replica of Barents' ship..
So I added it. The cuts were made with a 0.15 mm thick razor saw, and 0.09 mm black paper was placed..
Klinkbout will be added after grinding..
And now really a balcony..

Channels glued..
I created reinforcing knees. System ala marsalv...😇
The elbows will be reinforced with 0.5 mm pins. Finally wax..

Thank you for your input and thoughts. Building models according to plan or their historical accuracy is a dilemma that every builder must face. Fortunately, nowadays there are already enough quality plans.
I waxed the railing, covered the part where there would be other equipment..
There really isn't room for a Pin Rail on the aft deck on this plan..
Preparation for channels..

If there is one thing sure about the rigging of a ship, than it is that the ropes have to be belayed somewhere. In the case of your model I don't exactly know what the authors of the drawings had in mind, but as far as I am concerned you are free to mount pinrails in the sides anywhere you need them. If I am honest I must say that I have serious doubts about the pins in the railings athwarthships you placed your circle around. They seem very unlikely to me, but pardon me if I say something very rude here. It seems one has to be careful on this forum about saying things which might hold some criticism...
Well-meaning criticism is appropriate, from a person with your experience, Ab is beneficial.
I know from the beginning that the plan of this ship is not good, the authors drew from more sources.
The pins in the side railing of Dutch ships can be seen in the pictures, I found a debate on the Czech forum and there the most detailed picture of a Dutch warship - EENDRACHT from 1655 by van de Velde, he has pins in the railing.Another warship..
So the small possibility of placing them on warships was possible !?The Dutch double deck according to the model in the book Der Hollandische Zweidecker von 1660-1670 by Heinrich Winter also has pins in the railing, here this model by Alexander Bielov..
I build the model as competitive, here the main consideration is the agreement with the plan, every change must be documented. So I'm looking for historical data..

I appreciate your words Hubacs and Oliver
Finished railing of the poop deck..
Drilled all holes for pins in the side railing..
Can I have a question about Ab Hoving?
I'm looking for information on other ties that are not on the plan. Can I use the inner railing as on other models?Or Pin Rail on the inside? What is historically more faithful? Thank you.
