To all who may have been following my build of the Red Dragon,i must apologize for no more pictures. At this moment i am very unwell,i had two heart attacks in 2012 from which i have recovered, unfortunatly i was prescribed Statins these i have taken since then.If any one has read the Sunday newspapers you will realise this medication has devestated my life,a completly and a fully untested drug has put me in a wheelchair and at this moment i can do very little for myself. As i have now ceased taking this drug i hope in time i will recover to further enjoy this wonderfull hobby. My Dearest Regards to all. Janet B

Janet B Hi Bob Great work on the stern it must have taken courage to pull your first attemt apart, but i thought the second attempt is great workmanship.I always discard any- thing i dislike if i think that i can improve it and i think that you did proves the point, any carry on your build is looking good. Regards Janet B

Janet B. Hi Nigel, your Red Dragon build is looking terrific,if you are going for red sails i think it will suit your model,i am also thinking of fitting red sails but i think i will wait to see how your sails look.I am not at this moment able to do much building at the moment as i have just had a knee replacement and its painful at the moment so i cannot concentrate very much, however i am following your build with great interest. kit would be a really good start as a first time build. Dearest regards Janet

NMBROOK. I live in the UK there are several hardwood suppliers who sell the sort of wood you may require,i like using Lemonwood and i buy it sawn to a the size i can handl, i then saw it on my 4"table saw and finally i run it through my sanding m/c. If you do not own a sanding m/c there is one firm that sells the wood in smaller blocks ready sanded.Go on line and type EXOTIC HARDWOODS UK you will find a number of contacts. Regards Janet B

Hey whats the matter with you guys,as a retired designer i had to use both metric-imperial no sweat.

Janet B Hi Martin. Just to go over your method of using cyno thick,do you put small dots of glue spaced out along the plank or do you dab it onto the hull as you go along or spread it out, forgive me i have not tried this method but it does seem a lot quicker than my method.Incedently our local Smiths Bookshop is now out of stock of black tissue i bought all six packets so thanks for the tip. Dearest regards Janet B

Hi Emlbe. I must say i admire your workmanship,i too have bought this kit as it may be my next build and i wondered what style of planking you used on the hull, and also what adhesive did you use on the second planking as so far i have only used contact adhesive.looking at grateings i thought they look a bit plasticky when painted have you any thoughts on this,i am following your log with interest please keep up your wonderful pics. Best regards Janet B

Janet B Hi Jonny. I too made a mock up of the cannons,i had bought some laser cut in packets but when i studided them i thought they looked very poor they were made of thin ply i think they do not look so good, so i discarded them. Think your build is looking fine please keep up the photos.

Janet B I think your anchor looks great and very Chinese, one thing about this kit is you can build it many differant ways.I suppose my Red Dragon looks a bit European but i intended it to be like that.My ship is all wood and i am thinking should i go to Red or off white sails,i am looking forward to rigging her.

Janet B Hi Nigel. I like your progress you seem to have done very well, i think your deck looks really great. For myself i have made some progress i have rigged the small boat to the deck and i am just started to rig the tiller, the canopy (for want of a better word) i have used cane, i made three formers soaked the cane then bent them round the formers with elastic bands when dry they came out spot on. I hope to send some picks that is when i can find my camera connection. Regards Janet

Jim Byrnes Model Machines
janet bode replied to Mahuna's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
When i want to sand a very small piece of wood or a very thin piece on my Bynes Thicknesser i stick it to a larger piece of wood with double sided tape.I have also used it on my milling m/c it works very well but take small cuts. Regards janet ( -
I have a proxxon its the one with the adjustment on the guide. It was very expensive it is not very accurate and is frustrating to use, as for really accurate repetability it is just not very good.Do not waste your money get a Byrnes table saw even if you have to buy a second-hand one it will be worth every penny.Oh i still have the Proxxon but i use it just for generell use. Regards janet (
