I'm a big fan of pushsticks and feather boards, even though I don't currently have the featherboards. I'm debating whether to make them or buy from MicroMark.

Hi Scott, welcome back. I've been waiting for a couple of new toys and then it's back to work. We'll probably leave for the west coast by the end of May. Might do a trip to Austin and San Antonio in between. You need to go to Mystic again. The ship sails on May 17 I think then it goes up the coast and winds up in Boston in July. It'll be tied up next to Old Ironsides when it docks there after the restoration and it's 38th cruise....first since 1941.

Looks good Augie. Worked in the yard yesterday---shorts, T shirt, sun and 75 degrees. Yes spring is getting here...finally. Let's hope winter is gone or going.

I like the concept of asking for forgivness rather than permission, you obtain the toys that way..lol. My only comment would be that the addition of the disk sander with the belt really gives you a good tool. I have found some on ebay for around $70, but haven't bought them yet. Just my 2 cents worth. Either way they are really handy.

Hi Patrick, sounds like a plan. We love Bahama Moma's from Schmidt's, we still have some in the freezer, as well as burgers from Thurman's. She lived in Dublin, and her son and daughter both live there. Have fun with the dual build. Leave it to Popeye to edge it on...lol. Henry, (popeye2sea) is a wealth of information and a great guy to boot. He's a retired Navy Chief Signalman and actually served out the rest of this time on the Conny. He's a member of the 1812 Marines. You're in for a real history lesson building these ships.

Hi Charley, glad things are moving along. Yeah, we'll be heading west soon, but not until the weather breaks, like maybe 6-7 weeks out yet. Sorry about the pictures. That happens sometimes. Are you having fun with the planking? It's actually a lot of fun for me, it kinda starts to look like the hull of a ship the farther along you get. I like that. I'm waiting on a new to toy to arrive, and then I'll be turning out some work in the shipyard again before we take off west. Take care and good to hear from you.

Hello Jay, good to hear from you, glad you enjoyed your break. I love Hawaii, been there 23 times, almost moved to Maui in a past life. Happy Birthday also. Glad your new toy came in. I just finished making myself a poor boy's mill. I found a decent Microlux Drill Press on ebay, and then added a Proxxon Slotted Drill Press base and cross slide to it, along with a Drill Chuck and some mill bits. I should be able to make what I need also. Please keep us updated with pictures and how-to's as you work with your mill. I know it sure helps me see how you make parts and pieces as you continue your build. Thanks again, see you in the shipyard soon. John

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
