Got the dummy cannons painted and started installing them on the Victory. 

The antique gold is good now too.

I touched up the black and painted the rails and the gunport frames black on the port side.  So far so good.  

I like Delta Ceramcoat.  It’s usually ready to use out of the bottle and works beautifully for larger models.  It coats well and is acrylic, which makes for easy clean up.  The only downside is when painting brass and some plastics, you must put some kind of sealant on your model first.  For smaller scale models, the Ceramcoat works well, but Vallejo Model Color paints just can’t be beat.

The last time I painted a sub, I base coated it with Ceramcoat black and then dry brushed a thin coat of a dark charcoal gray, also Ceramcoat.

Now, I need to paint the guns and the frames, along with catching any touch ups that need done.

I have made some more progress.  I painted the insides of the gunport frames red.  I still have some more detail painting to go, but I’m making progress.  

I also started mounting the dummy guns into their mounting blocks.  I made the discovery that I have to be really careful to avoid splitting due to the age of the kit.

I ordered 160 HO scale eyebolts to make the gunport lids as historically accurate as possible.

I’m having much fun with this build.

This is the old 1:98 scale Mantua kit.  This particular kit is from 1991.  It’s been going together pretty well.  I’ve been having a lot of fun with it.  Caldercraft makes a really nice Victory, too.

Still making headway.  I’ve installed nearly all of my gunport frames.  I made the discovery that I got shorted 7 gunport frames in my kit.  I am making them from scrap basswood from an old model kit.

Thank you.  Yes, I just drilled a bunch of small holes, close together, and cut them out with an X-acto knife with a #11 blade.

Just please don’t shut down the Triton project until I get a chance to build mine.  

I really like the Triton concept where you had both the cross section and the complete build available.  That said I would be interested in building Winchelsea sometime in the future.  She looks like a neat project.

Working on fixing the gun deck issue.  Since I have to adjust my gunports anyways to make the metal frames fit, I’m taking advantage of this.  I would hate to build the Victory, one of the premier battle wagons of it’s age, and not have the guns run out.

Started installing my gunports.

In my lessons learned file, next time I am framing in my gunports BEFORE planking.

I have made the discovery that my gundecks are not exactly where they need to be in relation to the gunports, which I cut IAW the provided template .  This means that my gunports will be closed and the Victory rigged under full sail.  Oh, well, there’s always next time.

Plus, a model under full sail is always a very impressive sight!  😀
