  1. Houston Popeye has a problem !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it too late to build a Flare into the bow, it would mean reshaping your first bulkhead though. A bit like the old PT boats of WW2. ?? Good Luck mobbsie
  2. Hi Gents, Here we are again with a long overdue update, I know work on the boat has slowed for reasons I will give later but this is bordering stupid. I can only say I'm being bone idol. Right, thanks to all for your comments and for hitting the like button, I do appreciate you looking in. I apologize for the jumpy nature of the photos but this is mainly due to a lot of the jobs on the boat being small and don't appear to be note worthy, before you know it a lot has been achieved and not a lot recorded. The deck is made from Swiss Pine and really is just a framework for the Gratings and Boards. The deck boards are of 8m x 2m Red Heart, I made a guide frame so that I could sand the outer edges of the boards down to 1mm, these then sat flush inside the frame. The Gratings are from the kit and not the best, they came up short and so a mish mash was fitted together, not great but acceptable. The lower deck with completed boards and gratings, the anti slip bars are 2m x 2m Holly The forward Bulkhead has now been planked but is still work in progress, the planks are 5m x 1m Walnut. The second deck has been given the same treatment as the main deck and is dry fitted in position, the top deck has been planked using 5m x 1m Walnut planks. The stern weather boards have been fitted and are made from 8m x 2m planks, these have been fixed to the 7m x 1m Walnut of the first planking. I have also started to fit the aft ribs which are 2m x 2m Lime strips, soaked then shaped. All the decks have now been fixed, bulkheads planked and all ribs are in place. The Transom hatch has been made from a Lime frame and Walnut boards. the aft stringers are seen ready to be fitted. Here the aft stringers are being glued in. The Port side stringers are completed and have been pinned using cut down flat head pins. I do have more progress to report and show but that will be for another post, I promise it wont be as long this next time. Hope you enjoy them guys. Be Good mobbsie
  3. Nicely done mate, the lids look great. You forgot the 168 holes for the lid ropes, that's as much fun as doing ratlines. Be Good mobbsie
  4. Evening Mark, If it were down to me I think I would go for the browns of Pear & Boxwood. I do find the Eboniser a little inconsistent in color plus with Pear and Boxwood being a very tight grain the depth of penetration. Just my thoughts mate, you'll make the decision that's right for you and this lovely ship. Be Good mobbsie
  5. Hi Dennis, I haven't looked in lately and when I do, what do I get, peppered with wood chips and the sight of yet another keel being laid down. Just go to it mate, I've given up on giving up, if I had a white flag it would be fluttering briskly in the breeze. I wont ask what it is your going for now as I'm sure it will change in the near future once your mind has got a grip on what it is you hope to build. What you've done looks good to me and I'm sure will only get better. Be Good mobbsie
  6. Hi Mark, Given the period of the ship and the standard of glass back then I would say you have got it just about right, to my eyes they look slightly dimpled which I know was quite common. The frames fit nicely into the galleries and so altogether they are going to make the completed galleries look fantastic. Good luck with the carving mate, I have no doubt all will be well once you get your hands and eyes calibrated. Keep up this first class work. Be Good mobbsie
  7. Jeez Andy, I nearly missed this. Good to see you back with tools in hand mate, it's been a goodly while. Diana's looking splendid and is in skilful hands. Shame about still getting screwed about by the job, but, it does keep the wolves away from the door, or in your case, doors. I've locked onto you now mate. Be Good and Stay Safe mobbsie
  8. Hi Hennie, Nicely done with the netting mate, she's a lovely ship to build isn't she. Be Good mobbsie
  9. Hi Bug, I'm late to the discussion as usual but I only have one point. If your building the ship as close to Augie's concept and he's written notes to say he wasn't going to rig the guns then surely there is no question, don't rig the guns. I would however place the ringbolts and Breach ropes and leave it at that. Your doing good mate, keep it up. Be Good mobbsie
  10. Every little you do Kevin is a little less you have to do, it's not a race to get these done. Apart from planking this has to be one of the most tedious jobs on a build and as such it's easy to rush it and mess it up. Its also one of those jobs that can really make a good build special. Nice and easy mate. Be Good mobbsie
  11. Nice and tidy Bob. Your planking crisp and clean mate, just as we have come to expect. Be Good mobbsie
  12. Hi Mate, An expensive lessen learned me thinks, although it achieved what you wanted it to do I'd have thought it would do more than a single job.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Drive gear and shelves are looking good mate, should keep everything neat, tidy and accessible. I have one suggestion if you don't mind and that's to put in some kind of protection for the prop, I see the prop is below the bottom of the rudder and is open to damage. Don't want to bend that up in shallow water or objects below the surface. Enjoy your planking job mate. Catch up soon mobbsie
  13. Nicely done mate, good idea with the servo clamp. Will your mounting plate have an adjusting slot so minor alignments can be made when fitting it into the boat.? I understand why you have made your Die Holder and you have achieved a good piece but, surely a simple Tap & Die with the part your working on held in a vice would have achieved the same result. Please don't think I'm being critical, I'm not, I'm no engineer so I'm just asking the question. NOW, stop messing about and get back on the boat
  14. Come on Popeye, come clean, what've you gone and done. I bet it's all planned and you've got us dangling on a piece of string. If not I hope it's not serious. Be Good mobbsie
  15. Druxey, she is a little gem mate. For me, a display on the base would look look really good. Stick me down for a copy, a book like that would be invaluable. mobbsie
  16. That is now 1000% better Mark, lovely job and well done with persevering with this detail. Perfect. Be Good mobbsie
  17. What your turning out here Druxey is a damn good representation of a ceremonial barge. Superb work on the stern mate. Be Good mobbsie
  18. Interesting !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looking good so-far Denis, I'm still waiting to see a build with a Flying Bridge or an observation cabin on a mast, for spotting Tuna and the like. Be Good mobbsie
  19. Hi Bob, Granado was originally built as a Sloop, the keel was laid in November 1741, she was built in Ipswich and then transferred to Cann's shipyard in Harwich for fitting out. She was then fitted out as a Bomb vessel in July 1756, she was fitted out with 2 x 13inch Mortars but this was later changed to 1 x 13inch & 1 x 10inch. She returned to being Sloop in May 1760 and saw a lot of action as a Sloop, she was changed back to a Bomb Vessel in August 1761, she has indeed got a good history of engagements. She really is my favourite ship. Be Good mobbsie
  20. Hi Grant, Some good progress there mate. All seem to line up nicely, I particularly like the addition of the steering wheel. Have you decided where you are going to place the Battery Pack and Speed Controller, bearing in mind the speedo will need to be kept dry and easy access to the battery needs to be painless and with the boats stability in mind. Be Good mobbsie PS Catch up soon mate.
  21. Hi Mike, Welcome back mate. It would appear you have a little dusting down to do before get back into the build. I built the same Pagoda a short time ago, it went together beautifully, lovely little kit and the perfect alternative to ships. Looking forward to some updates on the Aggy mate. Be Good mobbsie
  22. Simply stunning Bob. Get her under cover and displayed prominently mate so you and all who visit can enjoy your hard work and skill. Looking forward to Granado Bob. Be Good mobbsie
  23. Nice replacement rudder Mark. If we learn from the mistakes we make why the hell do we keep making them. Can you imagine our build rate without these mistakes, I cant. Be Good mobbsie
