  1. Some interesting detail work on the forecastle, Nils. By the way, in English the chain sprocket wheels for the anchor chain are called gypsies. John
  2. Coming along really nicely, Francesca. That's a clever trick with the magnets. John
  3. "if we did not do the research our models would not be correct." An excellent sentiment, Bob! By the way, the model's coming along really well. John
  4. Haven't caught up for a bit, Neal. She really does look first class. John
  5. Your shingles really look first class Popeye! What's the next surprise in store for us? John
  6. Another very common method was to have a small step in the mast at the position of the shrouds, so that the shrouds rested on the xtep. John
  7. You're right, Pete - she really is starting to come together. John
  8. Rick, Lees gives, as a rule of thumb for the topmast - trestletrees 3 3/4" for every 3 feet of mast length - crosstrees 1 2/3 the length of the trestletrees. For the lower mast, he gives no sizes, but states that both crosstrees and trestletrees came to within an inch or two of the edge of the top. I don't know if the plan on the 'Lady Nelson' web site might help - here is the link: http://www.ladynelson.org.au/ship John
  9. I wish you'd stop doing that, Jond. I have trouble sorting out which are the full size pieces and which are your excellent miniatures! John
  10. Your 'Clara May' is really looking the part. As others have said, keep at it! Like any other skill, rigging takes a bit of practice, but you'll soon get the hang of it. John
  11. Very nicely constructed vents, Nils! For those who might be wondering, red was a very common colour for the interior of cowl vents - probably more than 90% of ships used this colour. John
  12. It's great to see her fully planked, Mark. John
  13. Pete, As you're building at a fairly large scale, would it be possible to build her as a sailing version but with a working drop centreboard? perhaps you could have a pin to fix the centreboard down for sailing. John
  14. I think I missed a bit along the way. She's really looking the goods, Pete. John
