  1. If you're really interested in weathering, have a look at Frank's (Riverboat) brig Supply log. He's even got scale barnacles!
  2. Looks like a great start on her. Can't comment on the plank bender.
  3. CONGRATS LARRY. You should actually celebrate with one 'belt' for each belt. Sounds like you have the plank width right as well. Don't be intimidated by the bowsprit. If you can handle planking you can handle anything . Trust me.
  4. Great idea with the spacer. You'll find many applications for similar, custom made pieces. Monokote doesn't come in a wood pattern. But Solartex fabric comes close to basswood :D
  5. After careful analysis of the data presented, it would appear that an alternative conclusion may also prove viable. Specifically, the glue joints in each case are stronger than the wood itself. It is suggested that further experimentation be conducted to determine the strength of the joints in the tension, rather than in the shear, mode. This might best be accomplished with the use of either an 'Instron' device or the application of opposing forces using two identical teams of draught horses Pending the publication of the results of the modified experimental design, I shall continue to get the 'brown stuff' off prior to gluing
  6. Could you kindly cut down on the number of photos you post? If I keep sitting here looking at the precision of your work I'll never get a darned thing done. NICE
  7. Afraid I have to agree, Per. One of the few times where 'Better Living Through Chemistry' comes up short.
  8. Well, I have to say that I KNEW this was coming the moment I saw you cranking out microscopic parts on heavy duty machinery. Yes, your blocks are spectacular....but they had to GO somewhere. Now we see the result. You have my respect, sir. Beautifully done. So much so that it's enough to make a grown man cry looking at his own efforts. And thanks for including the gantry.
  9. Thanks Bill. Probably see the same thing up on the gun ports. She tells you what to do. With an eye like that, I'll bet we're going to see some first rate work on both your current Phantom and future Confed.
  10. Darn it John, that's a beautiful piece of work. Boxwood does seem to be the way to go and I'm sure Jeff can help you out.
  11. I keep looking and looking......and the run of that batten looks fine. I'd say you're good to go.
  12. BIG congratulations on the validation of your framing efforts. She's starting to look 'Rafined'. You've even made ME happy!!!!!
  13. Jeff is correct. It usually just takes a light sanding to get the burn off but it always improves glue adhesion. Your model needs to last 200 years !!
