The keel assembly has been completed and cleaned up finally.
Removing laser char is a real pain, but much more to go for the frame construction.

Next chapter of the instructions are calling for the frame construction, I will skip this and rather continue with the building cradle assembly. This to have a safe storage for the keel and frames to come.

The inspector of construction ia already onsite and satisfied with the progress so far.

    Well, construction starts...

I'am following the instructions which are asking for the keel assembly as the first step.

The required keel parts are located on two lasercut plates 9 and 10. It is very gratifying that both panels are of the same exact thickness, just under 4mm.
All parts are already pre tapered on both sides to form the rabbet. It is only a little more sanding and fine tuning on the tapering required.
After the usual activities of cleaning and removal of the laser char the accuracy of the joints is excellent.
To highlight the finished joints I have painted all edges both sides with a pencil 6B.

I am tying ratlines right now... about 2000 clove hitches.  I don't see any advantage with this.  It would seem that it would be more difficult to attache the whole thing to the model and have it fit properly.  How to you keep everything straight and aligned if the shrouds are not in place yet.  Definitely seems more trouble than it's worth.  Just my 2 cents.

Hello everyone and thank you for the welcome greetings. The fishing boat is a “Zeesboat” from the region of the European Baltic Sea. I also found a Zeesboot from @Mirabell61 here in msw - a nice model. I build in 1:20 scale. The fuselage and stems are made of pear wood and the metal parts are made of brass. Starting as a test model, it has developed quite well. But there are also some mistakes I have a construction report on the boat in other forums. Inserting this here takes a lot of time. It also needs to be translated. If there is a lot of interest I can show it a little bit shortened. I show some impressions from the boat here. That is the current status. See you soon Matthias

    Hello Riotvan88<
I would create a slot to hold the keel to a wood base by gluing 2 square "dowels", as long as the entire keel, wide enough apart to hold the keel tightly. Make sure these square "dowels" a low enough to not interfere with the bottom of the bulkheads. the bow and stern section of the false keel need to be held by square angles up to the top of bow and stern. This should keep the keel straight for now. After you have assembled the bulkheads to the keel you need to glue blocks between each bulkhead to keep it straight. Better would be to fill all the voids between the bulkheads and make it a solid hull. For that, I would use bass wood, no balsa wood. Good luck

Hello Stuglo, I can only speak for myself but I will never be without a bandsaw again. I used them on and off during my working life and when retirement came I was expecting to find a small one useful in the shop. I got a Scheppach HBS20, possibly the smallest proper bandsaw available.
    https://scheppachdirect.com/product/hbs20-8-band-saw/

It is now the 'go-to' tool in my workshop. I may get a larger bandsaw one day but I will keep this small one till it dies.
By the way, the Scheppach customer service here in the UK is brilliant.
    Hope this helps,
    Bruce

    Hello,
and many thanks for your likes and comments.

Today I finished the first ten gun ports at the Gun deck. These one are not so complicated, but the next will be. The next one I have to do manually for each port.

I think I must not to explain the pictures.

At the inside I made them nearly flush with the hull, so that I have not so much to file and sand later.

At the last picture the outside of the port frames are cleaned up and are flush with the outside of the hull.

The next time you will hear not so much from me, because I'm busy doing the rest of the ports.

    " LE CENTAURE 1782" Scale 1/36

April 2015 I started with the construction of the model and soon realized,
    "that is a big think".
I wanted to present it as a cross-section model with complete interior design,
in the style of my model  BONHOMME RICHARD 1779.
On some whim I finished the construction Oktober 2016,
    all nicely packed and mothballed.
I still want to show the images of the construction protocol,
and have the hope that it will eventually be built further.
The sequence of images extends over a period of eighteen month
    in the time-lapse mode.

MicroMark sells wire gauge numbered drill bits in all sizes in tubes of six. I've bought them in the past in tubes of a dozen. They are sometimes a sale item. When they are on sale, I stock up. They break easily and from a hobby shop at six bits or a buck apiece, that can add up fast!

ulrich reacted to Isidro in Spanish 68-gun ship of 1752 by Isidro - plans of Isidro Rivera and construction by Jose Collado
Once all the frames were built, a first sanding job was carried out.
According to one knows of the English system of construction of that time, according to the book of another spy, this time French (blaise ollivier 1737) between two "account" frames (I do not know the term in English). there are three filler frames in which the bow part of the frame is not attached to the stern part.
also the space between frames in these ships is minimal in the area attached to the keel
no frame has its bolted pieces, according to the Spanish writings of that time,
in my plans we chose to have only one filler frame.
the assembly started in the bow, which is classic of the Spanish system and also of the English, and different from the French system type "orange segments"
    then they go hemi-frames inclined.
as the years passed, the number of crooked frames increased.
in the stern the corresponding parts are placed, in Spanish it is the "peto de popa" with the "gambotas"
You can see Jose_toledo proud of our work.

ulrich reacted to juhu in HMS Surprise kits
    Shortly:
neither of these resembles any "Surprise" once existing:

AL - huge kit that would look great just because of its size, if you have a room for it. If looking as you say for details, what details do you mean? If it does not represent any real ship, we can speak only of factographical errors and AL is really weak when it comes to historical accuracy. Still, finished must be eye catcher.

Mamoli - nasty cheat on customers IMHO, nothing more. If you search for Mamoli's model of "Gloire", does not it look like 100% copy of their "Surprise"? I would say so. What is cheaper than to repack the old kit, put there a new, popular name on the box and behold, we have a new kit to sell.

Bottom line: Both kits appeared shortly after famous "Master and Commander" movie, both companies tried to make the best money out of the popular "Suprise" ship, not taking any care for poor modellers wanting an accurate replica. So the kit were produced, were produced as fast as possible and this is the result.

If seeking for Surprise, check Jotika's web page. Unfortunatelly, they were never able to finish the kit and probably never will :/

Stretching certainly does work well, but for short pieces the rolling method is easier and you don't loose the two ends that would be squashed by the pliers/vice.

Make an entirely new channel with the deadeyes spaced properly to avoid the guns yet still be in its original position.   It should be easy enough to make.  Just trace the channel and make new slots for the deadeye positions.
