Thank's Marc, I noticed that as well less boats/crews , that's why it was easy to obtain lines drawings for the older boats ( right off the net ) I am a student of this racing series, so I appreciate the help. Best Regards, Pete

Hi Dave I would go with the last 2 pics and use the true water line . Best Regards, Pete -
Let Me start by saying "These are some pretty amazing racing Machines" . The Volvo Ocean Race is an Around the World Race , The Open 70 class is the largest , I am using plans that I got off the internet ( lines drawing ) for the Camper Volvo 70 wich was the 2011-2012 New Zealand Boat . I am building her in a 1/4" = 1' - 0" scale so she will be about 17 1/2" long wich is perfect to free Sail . So I will build her to Sail. I will use Basswood for the Backbone ( Keel ) Frames and Planking . I will also be doing the 2 part West System on the hull, so she will be plenty strong. This morning I got up and had coffe , and after spraying the final coat of white on America3 , I went to kinkos with my flash drive, and had the drawings enlarged to scale, printed them out and went to Michael's for the wood, I am planning on my own color scheme for this one as well as doing some things that I had seen on some of the other boats , So it would be my entry for this years 2014-2015 race. and that's part of the Fun ( That is what it's all about ) Here is where I am at :

Hi Dave , I am looking forward to seeing the deck stuff Best Regards, Pete -
Hi Omega, It was not so much the motivation of getting her in the water, as much as she is going together without a hich ( kina like a hot streak in baseball ), so there was no real stopping point, except to sleep Best Regards, Pete

Hi Omega, I like it , nice work . She's really taking shape . The detail work at that scale is somthing I only wish I could do . Best Regards, Pete

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
