  1. I think the term "difficult" is very subjective. It depends on many factors such as "how much experience do you have?", "how much detail in the kit?". And then there's this one: "How much scratch building of parts?" By that, some kits gave you a sheet of wood and a plan and basically you had to cut out and shape the part.
  2. Great work, Grant. I'm glad you were able to overcome the obstacles.
  3. Welcome to MSW, Brett. Chris has offered some great advice so give it some thought.
  4. I hope the 3d boats work for you. As for stowage... I think the answer is "it depends". Some were stowed with drain plug installed, others removed. Some were even towed for long distances. Upright does seem preferred though from what I've read and they would dump buckets of water into them to keep the wood swollen and joints sealed. So much of this during the age of sail was captain's choice.
  5. But, but.... some will need help with that.
  6. You can buy push sticks or make them. Many of us use bamboo chopsticks or just some long scrap wood. Use two.... one of press down and keep the wood from rising and the other at the aft end to push it through.
  7. Exactly. She sat on the stocks for quite a long time between building and launching. I don't remember who did the yards and masts on her, I would think it would be a navy yard but possibly not.
  8. Considering the Bellerophon was built by a contracted yard and not a Royal yard, it's quite possible there's things that don't match up to the normal specifications and dimensions.
  9. If I'm remembering right, wasn't the Black Walnut husks/shells ground up and used for cleaning jet engines? The engine would be turning at idle and the husks/shells bits would be fed into the engine intake. I remember the mechs making a mess of an area on the parking ramp doing this but not sure if was Walnut or some other nut husk/shell.
  10. Danial Dusek and his company are sponsors here. From what he's posted, he's redoing many of the Mamoi kits and improving them. You might do a search here on MSW for the kits and also contact him directly as he could let you know the status of this kis.
  11. Michael, Look up Catopower here on MSW. He does a lot of Japanese ships. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
  12. Welcome to MSW, Jason from the other side of the country.
  13. Welcome to MSW, Michael. Beautiful work you've posted and quite a career also. I'm looking forward to whatever your next build is and you decide to share. Feel free to open a build log for us to follow along.
  14. I have no idea OC. Could a hiccup with the browser, the server or any number of things. I think these are technically called "gremlins". LOL.
  15. Very good recovery, Bug. Isn't part of the fun of a bash is figuring out how to fix the 'oops' followed by bad language moments?
  16. Thanks for the inputs and feedback. I'm still sorting things out as I go. Hopefully the PE tools I ordered will be here tomorrow unless the pass gets closed again, In many ways, this is a challenge to me as I've done next to no PE. At some point, I'll either have it sorted or perhaps print out the PE plans, paint, fix, and glue that down instead of the PE. Much like one of the other builders is doing (I forget which one... my apologies).
  17. I wouldn't use sandpaper on paint at all. Maybe rubbing compound or even toothpaste. Learned that when painting a couple of cars.
  18. I'm glad it wasn't worse than it was, Håkan. I glad you posted this as often times, even the most careful person can have a "oh c**p" moment and require medical help. As for what Druxey mentioned.... I practice that also. Better not to get something done than face unintended consequences.
  19. Don't sweat it, Keith. I missed a lot also. I'm still looking at that it's pretty fiddly PE. Not a bad idea, Per.
  20. That's a good thing. For awhile it looked like they were closing up completely due to Bob's health issues.
  21. Thanks Ron. The channels have been sitting on my work bench for a day or so and have been painted. And yes, stub masts and bowspit.
