  1. Welcome to MSW. You might start by reading this: https://modelshipworld.com/topic/13703-for-beginners-a-cautionary-tale/. Lots of good info in there.
  2. I hadn't seen it before either. Interesting that the camera moves with the swells even below deck. I'll watch the whole thing tomorrow.
  3. I love the guns, but hate the news about the virus. Good on getting the vaccines but do take precautions since the variants are starting to appear.
  4. Welcome to MSW. The easiest way to make friends is visit other logs of interest to you and also to start one of your own.
  5. Welcome aboard, Grant. Nice work on the Bounty. When the next one arrives, do start a log so we can follow along.
  6. Red side down? That explains a lot on my builds.
  7. Do a search in both the kit and scratch areas for "submarine" as the key word in the title. There's a few builders heavy into subs that might be able to help.
  8. Hi Dan, welcome to MSW. When you're ready, open a build log. We won't beat you up as logs are a great way to get help and advice.
  9. The question is though... to which model? I have a feeling they will show up in a most unexpected model.
  10. Same question as Justin. I do it slightly different by mixing the white pva glue 50-50 with water. Add sawdust to the consistency needed. Or add the mixture to the sawdust.... it depends on preference.
  11. Many years ago, the Arch in St. Louis had a good collection of riverboats in their museum. I don't know what else that had as at that point I was only into sight seeing. I also recall that they had like 10 other museums relating to history, transport, etc. Again, not sure what they might have but St. Louis used to be big on the historical river craft.
  12. Welcome to MSW, Markus. Looks like you're off to a good start. If I may suggest some things.... First, do a search on "Amati Class J" and check for other build logs. Often times, or maybe actually more often than not, someone's been through what you're doing and they way did it will help you. Second, start a build log in the kit area. It's probably the best way to meet other builders and also to get help on your build(s).
  13. Jean-Pierre, you might have a look here: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/34-cad-and-3d-modellingdrafting-plans-with-software/ There's been a lot of conversation about CAD.
  14. Welcome to MSW, Nehemiah. To answer your question, the basic rule of thumb for learning rigging is a) Use our logs as resource as many builders go into detail on the rigging. The bigger rule of thumb is start with no mast, then 1 mast, then 2 two before tackling 3 masts. Each one will build on the previous. As you build, you will get better in all areas. So, relax, have some fun building.
  15. I think you got it. Also, many times, blocks get installed on the yards, etc. without being rigged (for example, not adding sails to the model) and thus, the blocks look more realistic with the two holes.
  16. Kev, are pre-bending/twisting the wood? Most of us use heat (I use a curling iron for example but there are other methods) to bend/twist wood.
  17. Welcome to MSW, ECK. Instead of the HEIC format you used, convert to jpg. HEIC seems to be little used outside of Windows 10.
