  1. Congratulations on a restoration well done, Dan. What difference it's made even compared to the photos of the undamaged model. Looks like it has a place of honor in the home.
  2. Fascinating what can be done... and yes,, that is a bit creepy.
  3. Welcome to MSW, Mauro. That is one beautiful engine. You'll find plenty of help here as we're a friendly and talkative bunch. There's topics that will help you get started... such as
  4. For some reason, the site truncates your link to only go to the homepage. The examples they show do look spooky to say the least.
  5. Interesting that they put a hatch on the bench. Is this a French ship, by perchance? I'm seeing a few bits that say it might be like the bench and "hollow" area on top of the galleries. On the French ships, the bench also doubled as a storage area for officer's weapons in case of mutiny or surprise attack.
  6. Robin, when you're ready to start, open your own log rather than jumping in on this one.
  7. BBB555.. welcome to MSW. What the others have said applies about opening a build log and looking at the other logs.
  8. I did the Billings Vasa. The only wood I changed/added was for the hull planking. If you haven't done so, goto the kit area and do a search on the Vasa and have a look at the logs. Detailing is pretty much up to you. Do as much or as little as you like.
  9. As a river boat, many did a camber on the deck. If haven't search in the kit area for the year for this ship and see if there's a log on it. The other thing is glue up the false keel and the parts you have shown in the first photo.
  10. Hi Bill, Welcome to MSW. I have two bits of advice... the first is this one as it contains a list of manufacturers who are banned by MSW because the pirate kits for honest manufacturers... https://modelshipworld.com/forum/149-our-stance-on-piracy-in-the-hobby/ The other is this topic... it offers some great advice. https://modelshipworld.com/topic/13703-for-beginners-a-cautionary-tale/
  11. Good news on your lady. No rush on the build. When the time is right, you'll know it and jump right back in.
  12. For some reason, I missed this one. Beautiful work adding all the details.
  13. I can't add to what's been said for example another "wow". Beautiful work well beyond most of us mere mortals.
  14. I moved this to the appropriate forum area. Also, you might want to change the title from your name to the name and maker of the kit.
  15. That is a question of the ages. Unless there's a hidden engine and prop, it really doesn't make sense.
  16. This a most unusual yet fascinating stand for the model. Well done, sir.
  17. Real life takes priority, Egilman. And burnout is an issue in both real life and model building and cross-over is common. Do what has to be done first and then as you feel up to it, fiddle with the model. Eventually, things come back and fall into place. Meantime, we'll all just keep the faith and hope to see you soon.
  18. I also have one (Proxxon branded) and basically it's useful for only little things off the model while chucked into a vise (they make holder for this). Too fast on speed even at it's slowest, and there's no super fine paper that I can find. For inside the hull... there's no substitute for hand sanding and using custom shaped sandpaper holders. If it's really rough, you can use various sanding tools like that with a very light touch and the slowest speed but it will take some practice.
