McLaren M8B by CDW - Accurate Miniatures - 1:24 Scale
mtaylor replied to CDW's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
I'm in also on this. I well remember those cars. BTW, Lou... I saw this in your post: But in 1070, when owned by Motschenbacher these wings were outlawed. The year gave me a chuckle... -
Hi Simon. First models can be , shall we say, challenging. And yes, a log will be a big help to you. Also, if you'll go here... there's a number of planking tutorials which go a long way in helping you plank her. https://modelshipworld.com/forum/98-planking-downloads-and-tutorials-and-videos/

VW samba bus conversion by kpnuts - Revell - 1/16 - PLASTIC
mtaylor replied to kpnuts's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
Ah... cool... something to haul your Ferrari to a show without getting the tires dirty. -
Is this a "new" kit or one you picked up maybe on Ebay? You might try emailing Amati and see if they have set of instructions in English. Here's their website: https://www.amatimodel.com/en/

Welcome to MSW, Pat. Looks like we have a few logs of that kit here on MSW. I suggest that when your model arrives, that you open a log in the Kit Log area. It's the best way to get help and meet other builders.

Welcome to MSW, Mic. I'm looking forward to you choice of builds and seeing a log.

Hawse Pieces
mtaylor replied to Don Case's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
That would probably be the best thing to do. -
It's a mixed bag for me... shopping online or the local hobby shop. It's survived by adding things like bicycles and maintenance. They've been expanding their shop with more plastic kits while cutting back on the wooden ships. Also adding RC car stuff along with a still large amount of flying model airplane things. The pandemic has been a boon to their business. Usually a short line out front and the inside at capacity with distancing, etc.

Hello from a newbie with L plates on!
mtaylor replied to Pirategirl's topic in New member Introductions
Welcome to MSW, Jas. Do give some serious thought to a build log for reasons others have mentioned. It really is the best way to get help and encouragement. -
Not a tree crash or a P-40. But had a DVIII control line flyer back around 67 at aviation school in Memphis. A rather huge beast for the control line, around a 3' wingspan as I remember. Flew well and was heavy with a large motor (.75?). A control line snapped and the plane got away from me.... right through the window of the base chapel which was next the base hobby shop flying area. I did immediately fess up but received no punishment. Even the engine was shot as it bent the crankshaft. I started looking for a less destructive hobby after that.

Chimp, after you're done sanding and filling and sanding, have a look at that planking tutorials here: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/98-planking-downloads-and-tutorials-and-videos/ I suggest looking through all of them and pick the one that feels good to you mentally. The first layer just has to be smooth and fair.. no highs and lows.

Fixed the title. Not sure where this log is headed but sounds interesting. An extended bug bus? -
Hello Krupi, welcome to MSW. Once you get your model, start a build log as it's a great way to get help and meet other builders. Also, you might want to read this topic as it has some great advice such as starting small before going large with guns, masts, and lots of rigging.

Good to see you again, Nenad. And good that the back pain is easing along with news of Hot-Head. Stay safe and I hope the Covid stays away.- 4,152 replies

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
