Eric, you're on the right path I believe. Part of the problem today is the use of the "swastika" as such. It's been around for centuries and is now considered to be in bad taste.

Thanks for the likes and the comments. I'll use a mix of the sanding dust from the planking, and about a 50-50 mix of white glue and water and then re-sand lightly. I've done this in the past and it comes out looking pretty good. The key is to make the "paste" pretty thick. I was hoping to do a better job but it is what it is right now. Lessons learned and fixes will be done. The main part of the hull should go a bit better.

Eric, If the symbolism is too close to Mrs. Cathead's observation, flip it over such that the "wings" go the other way.

Crowfeet would probably have been tarred.as they were standing rigging. Regarding the rope thickness... yes and no. Single rope, no. But the different lines, yes. The rigging plan will give you this info. On a model, some of the differences just are observable, so it becomes a modeler's choice.

Just a thought... play the Master and Commander movie with the sound up. Close your eyes and listen. Their sound team did a good job on background noises. It's not perfect of course, but the ship sounds are there and so subtle that you really have to listen for them. If you've ever watched it with the sound off and subtitles on, you know there's something missing.... that background noise.

Seems overkill using dividers to make the planking tic strip. Just print one out from MSW and use that. Or am I missing something?

Slowly making progress though sometimes it's two step forward and one in reverse. This bit was a combination. I was one plank too high on the aft.. had to remove it. But planking above the wale is installed, gunports cut and sized. Also a light sanding. Gap filling will happen after all hull planking is done.

That looks interesting, Lou. I noticed that there's several other companies offering metal ship kits. -
Andrew, by all means start a log. You can play "catch up" on opening post or so and bring everyone up to date.

It's great to hear from you, Gerhard. Family and life should be more important than models and more so now due to the virus. We're a patient group and will await your return. I hope all goes well from here on.

That is a good thing. One should never stop learning.

Trond, here's a link on how set up your log:

Looks to be fascinating, Eric. I've just started watching it and will do the whole thing in the next day or so as time permits.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
