  1. Welcome to MSW, Fltguy from a former Buckeye. From your screen name and avatar, I take it you are a pilot?
  2. Welcome to MSW, Tom.
  3. Hi Lenny, welcome to MSW. In addition to what Nirvana mentioned, do an introduction in the Captain's Cabin section.
  4. Christian, That might be a problem but how critical it is would be up to you. The French guns were different in dimensions and not by much. There wouldn't have been a ring on the cascabel ball either. The biggest issue I can see would be are the locations of the reinforcing rings and the length of the chase.
  5. Is your Dremel stand metal or plastic? Check for wobble by mounting the Dremel and see if it moves with a bit pressure. Some of these are not the sturdiest.
  6. Welcome to the rabbit hole. It's large and comfy and theres' a lot of us in here. However, there's no way out.
  7. There's quite a few different models of those out there. Some oscillate side to side and other in and out. It has it's uses for small parts not large one. Also, best bet it is to check out various models and prices. Prices and quality range wildly.
  8. Please put your logs into the proper forum area. The Shore Leave main area isn't for build logs. This is the proper area.
  9. I think, Michael's is or was under "semi" lockdown. You could call in an order and then pick it up in the parking lot. Part of the joy of shopping is just looking around in a hobby store. No telling what will you'll find that ends up being useful later.
  10. I think we all had that mental image. The key chains looked good for a month or two and then started to have an "odor".... After a year or so, the fur always fell off.
  11. Uh-oh.... sounds like you're jumping down the rabbit hole that many of us have. On the serious side, have fun with the processes including looking at and/or using new tools and tech.
  12. I had the Billings Jig many moons ago. I only used it for one build and there were some drawbacks. The biggest one is the long slotted piece for the keel and both end pieces. They weren't adjustable. One had to slip in pieces of wood in the slots to secure the parts. As I recall, it was basswood and was a bit on the fragile side. I currently use jigs of my own making when I need them. Then, if something isn't right, I can only blame myself and also save a pile of money.
  13. From where I sit, a question... is the wood from the kit good? If so, just cut outside the line a bit (not on the line) and then sand, file to shape. If the wood is damaged, copy it using a copy machine or one of the printers that has a scan/copy function. You may have to fiddle a bit with the setting to get the exact size you need. Once printed, these can be put onto a new slab of wood using rubber cement.
  14. There is a caveat to these lists.... the wood market has changed radically. Many sites no longer handle certain woods. If you find one overseas, getting it imported your country many not be possible. For example, I can locate milled boxwood in Europe but can't import it to the States. On the hand, I can buy billets of unmilled wood here.
  15. Go up to the top of any page. Hover you pointer over "More". A dropdown will come up and one of the choices is "Planking Tutorials". Check them out, one of them may be exactly what you're looking for.
  16. Welcome to MSW. For a first model, you did very well.
