  1. Nice work and good looking wood. Are you saving the small off cuts? If so, to use in the fireplace, soak in water for several hours and then toss them on once the fire starts making the red coals. You'll get a very nice smell.
  2. Like many others, no drill press here as I use my mill when need some precision or multiple holes drills in a part. Saves floor space and a pocket full of cash.
  3. I think you have me mixed up with someone else. I've never done an OcCre kit or an Endeavor.
  4. It might be worth your time to see if there's any local hobby shops in your area that specialize in RC aircraft (seems most have gone that way). They do sell lite ply for those building A/C.
  5. I'd be a bit careful using something like "Rock Hard". If the filler putty is much harder than the wood, the wood will get sanded down faster than the putty and create more problems. Been there, done than on a piece of furniture.
  6. Welcome to MSW. I'd suggest opening a log in the Shore Leave area as "Restoration". We'd love to see it. We do have quite a few members in Missouri so you might add your location to your profile so it appears under your profile photo/image and shows up in your posts.
  7. Seems they quote the size before the factory sands it after everything is laminated. I ran into this and asked and that was the answer. So take your calipers and measure.
  8. Ok.. I give up. What's the song?
  9. I agree with Bruce but will it look out of place with the rest of the model? Sweet looking boat.
  10. Possibly some sort of management decision due to budget constraints on the design team?
  11. Looks great, Greg. I do see a resemblance to some "custom" motorcycles (three-wheelers) though.
  12. At one time, shipping was based on weight and size of the package. Who knows what voodoo they now use to compute fees.
  13. Eric, I appreciate your honesty on this and after seeing what you had to work with, am frankly a bit disappointed that the design and implementation wasn't better. I have to say that over the years I've seen a lot of kit builds and even scratch builds started and then abandoned due to errors in parts, part quality, instructions and the like. For what it is, I think you did a good job of overcoming thing and also showing your issues and disappointments with things.
  14. I love that display. Nice work.
  15. I find there's no hard/fast rules on this. Sometimes I use T-pins, other times clamps similar to what's been shown. It all depends on if it's double planking or single planking. I've even used tape to hold planks in place. If I use a pin on the visible plank (outer one on double or if it's the only layer and need use a pin, then the holes get filed with a bit sawdust and glue. I have found that spilling and pre-bending to fit do save a lot of aggravation and extra work. See the planking tutorials on how to do this.
  16. Which manufacturer? You might do a search in the build logs area for your particular kit and see what others have done. The catch is that it could be either die cut or laser cut depending on when the kit was made.
  17. The bird looks absolutely great, Andy. Both look perfect together in that photo.
  18. Good points on the masks and wearing them. BTW, I moved this post to the appropriate area for discussing shop equipment.
  19. Welcome to MSW, Bryan. From what I've seen here on MSW it's either the Bluejacket or the Model Shipways. Both are accurate for the times they represent as the others have some issues on this. Not having built either one, I can't speak to the instructions. I suggest search out the logs in the kit area using the search feature here.
  20. Not sure I can like that post, Kevin. Great on the model but not great on your mom. I hope the docs get things sorted out for her including a false positive (fingers crossed) on the COVID.
  21. Tom, the sails, I believe are your choice and what your vision is of the completed model. Either way... go for it.
