  1. Thanks. I guess this is one of those things we'll never know for sure.
  2. Looking at post #21, It makes me wonder if every contractor for boats had their own way of doing things which would make it tough to sort out which one was correct the Bounty at the point in time of the mutiny.
  3. Just a curiosity if I may. The masts were set at the shipyard initially as I understand it but once the captain was in charge he could change it. So what angle was the mast set to initially? And if subsequent captains took over and changed the angle changed with reference to the deck or water line, were they changed out? Modified using small wedges?
  4. From Wikipedia... maybe this will help. Origins[edit] The term 'jolly boat' has several potential origins. It may originate in the Dutch or Swedish jolle, a term meaning a small bark or boat.[1] Other possibilities include the English term yawl, or the 'gelle-watte', the latter being a term in use in the 16th century to refer to the boat used by the captain for trips to and from shore.[1][2] According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term appears in Chamber's Encyclopedia between 1727 and 1741. It is called simply 'jolly' in the early 19th century novels of Frederick Marryat. The word may have been in use considerably earlier, as the record of the voyages of Francis Drake and John Hawkins has 'That day the Pegasus jolly was going on shore for water, carying no guarde. The Spaniards perceiving it came downe upon them.'[3]
  5. Castle builds are rare around here, but I'm in on following this.
  6. Let the docs do their thing and follow their advice. You'll be back in the workshop soon.
  7. OC, I daresay that if you hadn't told us, we wouldn't have known about the boo-boo. I believe you'll have it repaired and any one seeing it will never know.
  8. I am too. When I first saw this a few days ago, I thought it was team but even more impressive being a one-man operation.
  9. Clever method. Necessity is, as they say, the mother of invention.
  10. No hints as to the long term project? Are you building suspense? If so, you're doing a good job of it. LOL
  11. I'm glad the ski crash wasn't worse, Andy. When I got out of the Marines, the city we lived in had a place called "Suicide Hill" which lived up to it's name as a couple adults did die on it but luckily no kids did.. It was roughly a half mile long and very steep with trees. My son loved for me to take him tobogganing there.
  12. That absolutely fantastic. Thanks for posting it.
  13. There's been some good advice. One thing thoiugh... you might tell us your location as for all we know you're somewhere on Earth and it's a big place with some places having companies that do bespoke work versus places that have zilch. I suggest you go to your profile and add your location. There might even be someone who's nearby from this forum.
  14. Good questions, Ian. I think most, if not all of us, had our doubts doing our first few kits. I would suggest you open a log and show us where you are and what you're thinking. It probably the best way to get help and encouragement.
  15. That looks incredible, Alan. The sepia pics bring it life.
  16. I would suspect that the plates are not being scanned to protect them. Unfolding them could cause damage to the paper of these old books.
  17. Count me in also. In spite of your self-doubts, I suspect we'll see another mini-masterpiece.
  18. Thanks for the explanation. I didn't realize plans, etc. were scattered all over the country. Nor would I have ever thought that Denver would a part of this.
  19. Have a look at Keith's post #2041. Looks to me like he found it.
  20. I see the problem now. From one Mark to another.... you are really rural. Do look at our sponsors then. I seldom use Ebay unless it's something I'm really looking for. Last time I was looking for specific tool and Ebay came up a lot so I used them.
  21. Check out our sponsors on the front page. Is there a hobby store near you? Even if they don't carry ships they usually have models and along with paints and tools. We have one in our town that does that. Ships, they don't carry but will order. Also, you might call some local artist supply stores but kind of doubt they would have model paints unless they sell models.
  22. I'd like to recommend that the title of the "Log to the PDF Tool" be changed to "Log Backup App" or "Log Backup PDF" with a note early on maybe in the title referring to This Discussion for issues, comments, etc. to keep the download post clean. Otherwise, I'm afraid any changes/additions to the app may get lost in conversation.
