Dumb question time..... seems space fighters usually have wings (yeah, Tie Fighters don't), The question is why? As I recall, Star Trek, and maybe one or two others didn't either. As for Roddenberry from the book that was out, he also called it "Wagon Train to the stars and beyond" when he was pitching the idea to TV execs. He also believed in "rational" for designs of other craft, ship systems, etc. I think his only deference to Hollywood was the ladies costumes.... mini-skirts???? Really????

"Send a bill"???? I must have missed that part of being a moderator. LOL. -
Welcome to MSW, Mic. Do start a build log in the appropriate scratch build area. We would love to see it and a benefit is it is the best way to get help.

Great to hear you're back in the saddle, Keith. Hang in there, spring is coming. Or so I'm told.

Good to see you back, Ron. I'm total agreement with Håkan on walking away. So don't feel bad as a break is a good thing.- 122 replies

Check the sharpness of your blade. Other points would be feed speed and blade speed. Not all saws have a variable blade speed though. -

3D Brig 'Rose' in Blender 3.3x
mtaylor replied to 3DShipWright's topic in CAD and 3D Modelling/Drafting Plans with Software
By the way, I'm loving what your doing. Way back in the dark ages of PC's (183, 283) when HDD's were sized in about 1-2 MB, I tried some 2D and crude 3D stuff like Blender and the Doom developer kit . Enjoyed it but really couldn't wrap my head around it so stayed with engineering software. -

No worries. Seems to happen a lot so you are not the only one. -

I may be wrong but doubt there was mini-deck at the stern.. Seems to be unnecessary, a waste of wood and added weight. Too small to be practical. Now if it had a quarter deck, then that would work as it would have room for rigging handling, a wheel, etc. And the ladder for going down would be just after the mizzen mast. I guess I'm trying to think like a ship designer of that era. They were practical people. As for stern ports..... they may or may not have been used as gun ports. Many ships had stern ports that not used for guns. They were used for ventilation and also loading stores. They weren't always the same size a gun port. -
Thanks for the explanation as I've never heard of using bleach on silver. Liver of sulfur would be a good way to go... less mess and won't stain the wood.

Except for the second.... missing the "o". Sorry, old tech writer and editor habits are hard to break. -
OC, I know some of the products but haven't clue what's available in N.Z. Harry, that's great you got them blackened. What did you finally end up using?

Beautiful work does not begin to do justice to this model. I hope you give her a place of honor to display her.

Alvb, This is an English language forum so please post in English. If needed, Google Translate works very well. Thanks, Mark -
Looking good from here, Ian. As for the inner wood... once it's been skinned and has some strenght, perhaps you can remove some one as the skinning will probably help hold things in place. Sort of like an Indy or Formula 1 car where there's minimal chassis as the body provides the stiffness needed.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
