F-86F-30 Sabre by Egilman - Kinetic - 1/32nd scale
mtaylor replied to Egilman's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
For me it was the best way. I was doing photos at the local drag track and needed to be able to do up to 16X20 at a reasonable cost. Doing it myself was the only option. -
Turn a scalpel blade into a saw
mtaylor replied to bruce d's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I'll try to get to it this weekend. Things are bit hectic here for me at this time. -
Compilers don't catch everything as you found out. Doing a series of "for" and "while" loops early in my programming days, things sometimes just went bananas followed by a lot time tracking down the problem and explaining to the boss why I locked up the test main frame. I'm glad you sorted it out.

Thanks Bruce for the post and link. I'm going to have to give this a try. -

I agree on having someone else do the film as the commercial places were very uniform. Color prints weren't bad when I was doing it but this was back in the '80's... and suddenly I feel very old. -

Or have your own darkroom. I did and it was always a matter of holding my breath while developing the negatives as color film had quite specific temperatures and times for developing. -
What to do with a model collection? Take some photos and go visit the local library. They might take one or two or more even. Also some "fraternal" organizations and veteran groups hat have a meeting hall might be interested.

Welcome to MSW, Pietro. By all means, start a log of the half-hull model.

Excellent research and an answer to the mystery. BTW, there's a topic here in the Dealers area. This log covers development several new kits and the Wyoming is one of them.

I'm in also. You find the most rare (I think that's the right word for your builds) projects. They also have some very interesting history.

Given the year, the masts may have been back up for the propulsion. Do the plans show then as masts and sails? Or just masts? As a tug, I'm not sure she would have had booms and hoists.

No worries, Eric. I believe we all know that real life has priority. When you're ready, we'll be here.

Nice to see you back in the shipyard, Danial. You're posts have been missed. Not sure where you're headed with this small "fragment" but it is an interesting work.

You are doing a beautiful job on the build. It strikes me from your trials and frustration that this is almost like a scratch project with all the figuring out of the sequence among other things.

SD 14 by RN77 - Marcle Models - CARD
mtaylor replied to RN77's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1901 - Present Day
As for moving it, I suspect that this a model in the "gray area". You're using the "kit" to generate your own building materials so not using the kit except as a template/plans.... am I right? If so, this falls into the scratch area.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
