  1. We do have one for general shipaholic types... Dr. Per. He has a topic in Shore Leave for shipaholics.
  2. One reference I have is worth every penny. The Art of Ship Modeling by Bernard Frolich from ANCRE. While it doesn't always apply to every French ship, much of it does. I do find that depending on the ship, there are some differences is "parts". The rigging section is about 40 pages long.
  3. I wonder if that green bit above the stretcher might have a pillow or a blanket inside?
  4. Thanks for the advice and comments everyone. To carry one with Sphinx, I am working a bit outside the instructions at this point and sorting processes and methods out. Hopefully, I'll have it completed by the end of the year as long as nothing else gets in the way. I'll update once I have some real progress.
  5. Not to mention people coming and taking their coats off in that area. One bad swipe and disaster. A case is the only way to go.
  6. Sound like a great project, Richard. I'll be looking forward to your build log on the Le Gros Ventre.
  7. Welcome to MSW, Mr. Skulduggery. You might consider opening your own intro topic here. As for first wooden models.... One series of wooden ships is just really for beginners designed by David Antscherl, modeler extraordinaire, and a member here. There's two of these, one without tools and paint https://modelexpo-online.com/Model-Shipways-Shipwright-3-Kit-Combo-Series_p_5465.html And one with tools and paint. https://modelexpo-online.com/name
  8. Protest? If anything we encourage build logs. We're much like a family without the food fights.
  9. Thanks for the kudo, Ferrus. I still consider myself not an expert builder but constantly learning and lately, re-learning.
  10. From the last photo, your stern is too high up. Drop it down such that it goes under those two tabs. (one on each side).
  11. Quite right about many variations. I just used one of the more common ones.
  12. It's not obvious to most people but war (inclusive of ground, air, and sea) is NOT glorious and civilized. It's miserable to say the least. General Sherman was 1000% correct. His entire quote: "War is hell. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, more vengeance, more desolation."
  13. Welcome back home, Dave. All those that wander are not lost.

  15. Try this, Chris..... they're "Heinz 57" as my dad used to call them.
  16. I'm sorry to hear about the "old" dog as they are family. The "new" pup looks adorable.
  17. It's all part of the process, Ian and documenting it will help someone else at some point in time.
  18. Blackening is choice of methods. For me, for loose parts like rings and eyebolts and always cannons, it's blackening. For parts on a sprew it's painting though they can be cut off and blackened. I find that blackening agents do a nice thin uniform blackening. I don't have an airbrush so that method is out for me.
  19. Isn't the rational that he who dies with the most tools, wins? Not sure what the reward is though for having the most.
  20. A beautiful model coming to life. Patience and endurance are needed in this hobby as well as occasional adult beverage and a salty vocabulary.
  21. Where's Lou? @lmagna I need to find out if this is one of his kids since he calls them Veloceraptors.
