  1. That could be intentional for "viewing purposes". Gives a more rounded shape to look good.
  2. Congratulations on being in the book. Very well done. A toast....
  3. Do test the LEDs at every step just in case there's a wiring problem. Been therer, done that, and pounded my head against a wall.
  4. A very well done joint. One of the best I've seen.
  5. My start was similar, Jack. Except it was airplanes. My mom did a couple of ships too when I was young.
  6. Very nicely done, OC. This is just a skeleton? If so, a few wires visible won't be show stopper as that's the way they are in museums.
  7. Welcome to MSW, Bruce. I hope you'll do build logs on your current builds in progress. If you have photos of the San Francisco, feel free to put some in the Gallery.
  8. After seeing your posts in the other topic, I'll make mine here. It's your ship. You are the owner, captain, and crew. Do with it as you feel. IF the muse hits and says sails need to be restored then go for it.
  9. That might work on a table that top slides apart... but not sure I'd want to do that. Seems like it create lots of issues especially where an Admiral is involved when it's time for dinner.
  10. I hope all goes well with the parental move, Tom. Real life always takes precedence. Love the stern carving. On the topic of preventer chains... it may very well be that they were stowed nearby and only installed in an emergency. She wasn't a warship so not as much danger for enemy shot and shell. In bad weather they were installed "just in case".
  11. I suspect the aluminum will probably be lighter than ply. Maybe not. One way to cut weight is drill holes in the aluminum or wood. In wood, too many might weaken it. Aluminum, not so much and it's not affected by water so no need to add sealer which adds weight.
  12. Welcome to MSW, Juan. As for using Google... we have many members who do use "Translate".
  13. I have seen a model that the owner actually sat in to cruise around a lake. Need a good size trailer to hull it and a friend to be on board also to help run it. Maybe we model builders are bit on the crazy side?
  14. I'm surprised they could actually fly as much as they did. There were reports that the Red Baron had diarrhea so bad towards the end that he could barely walk out to aircraft without an "oops".
  15. Got my fingers crossed for your Admiral, OC. Hope it's something easily corrected.
  16. Pretty much that was it. The engines were somewhat marvels for the times by comparison.
  17. You had me scratching my head about "candy cane deck"... until I got to the photo. Perfect description.
  18. You should tradmark "Cardboard Aided Design" LOL. You're doing some beautiful work on this. I'm with you on making the best use of the time we have. I note that medical stuff is a pain (literally and figuratively and I hope/pray for a good outcome of this.
  19. https://www.worldcoppersmith.com/articles/copper-patina-guide/#:~:text=Soaking copper in white vinegar, the darker the patina becomes. A quick Google on "how to tarnish copper quickly" gives a lot of answers that are basically like the one above. So it might be worthwhile to run the search and see what else has worked for others.
  20. Good advice from all the above. I know they were selling those decorative models into at least the early 60's in many department stores here in the States. It really doesn't look like it'll need repairing but just some TLC and cleaning.
