I love the pipe work as it adds an extra dose of realism to the boiler. The round pressure guage is a really nice touch too. Well done.,

Hi everyone Guess what? Symphony's completed (well, about as completed as it can be at the moment-there's still some minor things to do, but I'm too eager to get started on my next boat, so I'll leave them for another day). I'd like to thank all of you for your comments, compliments and Likes. I can't tell you how much they mean to me. So, simply put, many thanks. Here are the latest photos. Cheers and thanks Patrick

Hi Frank Great to see you back! I've gotta admit that the 'do-over's' are an unfortunate side effect of our hobby, but on the plus side, at least you'll be satisfied once it's done. I also like the fact that your new term "Dratlines" seems very appropriate in many respects! Cheers and all the best and take care! Cheers Patrick

Hi Igor Once again, I see it, but, I still don't quite believe it!!! Nicely done. Cheers Patrick

HI Mark Thanks for your comments, which are greatly appreciated. The zodiac was great fun to build and it added a nice touch to the ship. I must admit I didn't even know how to actually build it, but, after a bit of thought, it turned out to be surprisingly easier than I envisaged. All the best! Patrick

Hi Denis Many thanks for your comments. Greatly appreciated as always!!! All the best Patrick

Hi Brian Really nice work and a very impressive ship you've got there! I'm just wondering about your comment about the stand though, because to my mind, what you've got there is full of character and close to what the real ship's cradle could've looked like. Additionally, it certainly looks the part! Keeping it may save you some extra work. Just a thought. Cheers and all the best Patrick

Hi Igor The Coast Guard cutter looks like she'd be a fun build, that's for sure. I also checked on the Winston Churchill and loved the look of that one. In many ways, she's very similar to the Atlantic. I'm not sure if you've come across this site, but it may be of some help - http://www.jocham-schiffe.de/html/start.html Cheers and all the best Patrick

Hi Igor Now you've got me intrigued! Are you able to drop any hints about what your next two prospective projects are??? Cheers Patrick

Hi Nils Seeing the photos of your beautiful hull above, I'm struck by two things. Firstly, just how big she is and secondly, just how fine and sharp the bow is (like a knife's edge!). But above all else, I reckon she looks great in the display stand. Job well done. Cheers Patrick

Hi Nick and Bob Thanks for your comments! I'm definitely feeling like she's really coming together now; particularly as the stand is taking shape. Cheers and all the best! Patrick

Hi Mark Really nice work on both hulls! The long boat is a surprise because I hadn't recalled you mentioning that you'd started it before, but nonetheless, it'll be a welcomed side project to Licorne. I also must echo what everyone else has said about the planking of Licorne's hull - terrific job, that's for sure! All the best Patrick

Hi Igor Many thanks! The zodiac was far easier than you'd think. Here's how - Beneath the waterline was a shallow v shaped hull onto which I glued plastic rods to simulate the rigid inflatable sides of the hull. From there, I added the centre console and seat with the radar supports above the outboard motor at the rear. Hope this helps! Cheers Patrick

Hi everyone! Well, I'm almost at the finished line. Symphony now has her rudder installed, as well as her auxiliary propeller (which still needs painting). But, most importantly, I've been working on her display stand. There's still more work to be done on the final design of the supporting struts to make them as unobtrusive as possible; so as to give the impression of Symphony 'floating' above the display board. I'll do the same with her tender as well. Hope you enjoy the photos. Cheers Patrick

Hi Piet Many thanks! I totally understand how busy you must be with the Surabaya. What with three masts and all that rigging ahead of you, it mustn't be easy. On the other hand, if you ever get bored, you could surely sneak a little miniature in there somewhere... Cheers Patrick

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
