  1. Hi Dave Good to hear you're getting some shop time, but don't rush. Easy does it! Cheers Patrick
  2. Hi everyone and thanks for all of your comments and Likes! Greatly appreciated. A quick update - Over the past few nights, I've been working on the ship's winches, of which Symphony has quite a few, located on the masts, rear cockpit as well as the anchor winches on the foredeck. Anyhow, here's the results of the past few night's of effort. Cheers and all the best! Patrick
  3. Hi Tony That's what it's all about...having fun and enjoying the hobby! Cheers Patrick
  4. Hi Tony I'm loving the ratlines! ....can't wait for the rest of the rigging to be added. Cheers Patrick
  5. Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you, Maurino!!!! It's not every day you turn 50!!!!
  6. Hi Igor Okay, okay, okay. This time I really don't know what to say! Can I please ask what you used as the round cogs at the ends of the winch? Were they watch mechanism parts? Cheers Patrick
  7. Hi Mike Sorry, I can't help you about the windlass, but it'll be magical to replicate it in all its detail. I've got no doubt you'll do it justice. I love your holiday snap. Proud father and daughter...with what can only be described as a very interesting and large kite! Nice! Thanks also for your earlier query about my RC yacht (sorry I didn't respond immediately). Here's how I did it. The aft cockpit was removable and was used to store the rudder servo, receiver and its batteries. The midship area (which housed the engine room on the real yacht) was removable and used to store the 5 nicad batteries for the sail winch. Lastly, the foc'sle was used to house the large sail winch, with the drum itself being situated above deck. Worked ok, but, it was all a bit of a juggling act, that's for sure! Cheers Patrick
  8. I've gotta agree with you, too, George. Difficult enough for me to follow the building sequence from the photos, so I take my hat off to Ken. What amazes me just as much, is how hard it must have been for the designer of the kit to pull all of this together as well. He/she must be one hell of a master origami expert!
  9. Nice work, Mike!! You're really cracking along with this build. Cheers Patrick
  10. Hi Edward Nice job so far! You're right about the addictiveness of the hobby, though; however, as long as it remains fun, then it's worth it. The little sander that Jack's recommended really looked nifty, as well. I reckon it'd be worth picking one up. All the best and I'm looking forward to your next update!! Cheers Patrick
  11. Really, really nice job on the wheels, Cathead. They wouldn't have been easy, but they turned out brilliantly.
  12. Hi Piet You may say that it's a 'trial' pulley, but it looks mighty fine to me! Nice stuff. Cheers Patrick
  13. Hi Frank Good luck with the surgery. I'll be thinking of you on the 8th. Please take care and make sure that you're fully recovered before putting yourself under further risk; so rest up! Cheers and all the best. Patrick
  14. Hi everyone A quick update. I've cut the main and mizzen sails from the remainder of the material previously provided by IgorSky for my Rainbow J-Boat model (thanks Igor!). The photo's below show the sails temporarily fixed to the masts to test for shape and cut. Lots more work to go, still. Cheers Patrick
  15. Hi Denis Guess who's another year older and wiser! Happy birthday and here's looking at many, many more!!! Cheers Patrick
  16. Hi Owen She's one hell of a beauty and you're doing a great job. The designers in those days certainly knew how to design graceful ships, didn't they? Nicely done! Cheers Patrick
  17. Hi Bob, Carl and Frank. Thanks also to all those who hit the Like button! Much appreciated, as always. Bob-thanks for your compliments! Frank-nice to hear from you and hope you're on the mend! Carl-Thanks! The real ship has white masts, but wooden booms, which to my mind, look a bit odd, but they're a nice contrast, nonetheless. As for the rigging thread, I bought it from our local Spotlight shop (you may have a similar type of shop that sells, material, threads, buttons, etc). Hope this helps! All the best. Cheers Patrick
