  1. Hi Ben Thanks! I hope I'll do her justice! All the best with your ship, too. Cheers Patrick
  2. Hi everyone! A big thank you to everyone who has shared in Rainbow's journey! Thanks for all your comments, feedback, advice and, of course, the Likes! Piet, Dave, Mike and Elia - a special thanks to you guys for your last comments. Well, I can safely say that Rainbow is about 99% finished. I just need to do some touching up to the hull's paint job, as well a bit more cleaning up of the rigging, but essentially, she's finished. The mainsail has been attached to the mast. The genoa is set and the port side railing has been done. Here're the photos. Cheers Patrick
  3. Yep, thanks Igor. I've been drooling over these sites (and others) for months now. I even contacted Tad Roberts who drew the original hull drawings to see if he could give me the frames drawings, but he declined for a variety of perfectly understandable reasons. No worries, though. Symphony will look just as good, even though the hull won't be exactly the same. Thanks once again and all the best. Cheers Patrick
  4. Hi Igor, Dennis and Nils Many thanks for your comments. Igor- I know it sounds confusing, but I originally wanted to build an accurate model of Signe, but I wasn't able to obtain the hull's frames plans. As a consequence, it'll be a bashed combination of Ticonderoga's hull, with Signe's accommodation and sail plan. A bit of a hybrid, I guess. For that reason, I decided to rename the model to Symphony. I hope this makes sense! Dennis - I had started this ship originally, but I put it to one side whilst I concentrated on Rainbow. Nils - thanks for your encouragement. I reckon she'll turn into a really nice model, as well. Cheers Patrick
  5. Hi Mick Yep. I just saw your post about Aeropiccola's HMS Victory's kit at 1/170 scale, which should be nice but challenging. Out of interest, how big will the hull be? My Victory was done at 1/192 and that came out at about 12 inches overall. I'm looking forward to your updates on Cheerful as well the Victory. All the best! Cheers Patrick
  6. Hey Piet After every good construction project comes to an end, the celebrations must begin. Are you sure that there's enough Heineken for all of your national and international fans (aka 019 groupies) to have a drink or two with you? Congratulations. What a beauty you've built! Cheers Patrick
  7. Hi Mick You're doing a great job. I love that hull, especially the photo where you can see the internal framework of the hull. Keep the updates coming! Cheers Patrick
  8. Hi Jerry Sexy poses! It's almost bordering on 'boat porn' for us modellers! But, hey. I'm not complaining. Please keep the sexy poses coming because I'm definitely liking what I'm seeing. Keep 'em coming. Cheers Patrick
  9. Hi Igor I can't believe it! It seems like fate, because you were only saying in your previous post how easily things can go wrong once you've gone past the 'point of no return'. And look what happened! Nevertheless, it seems like you've made a great save and were able to fix the broken parts. I'm looking forward to seeing your ship finally at rest upon calmer waters. I think secretly you must be a micro-surgeon? Cheers Patrick
  10. Hi everyone Thanks for all of your Likes and comments, with special thanks to Nils, Igor, Bob, Dimitris, Row, Marty, Piet, David and Greg for their comments. Rainbow has been an absolute joy to build and the encouragement and advice received from you guys is fantastic. Sadly, I'm getting close to the end of the build, but, the good thing is that I'll be able to re-start my next model, Symphony (see link in my signature block below). Marty - thanks for asking about a display case specifically for a Rainbow. I may not actually do a case for her, because I have a large, 6 foot tall lockable display cabinet where my other miniature models are stored and Rainbow will probably take pride of place on the top shelf. Cheers and all the very best! Patrick
  11. Hi Jond Those sails look great! In fact, I'm thinking launch day is not too far away? I must admit to not totally understanding why the low centre of effort would affect her sailing qualities, though. When you get a chance, could you pls explain? Cheers Patrick
  12. Hi Dave What a beauty! What makes this build even more special is the personal connection that the boat has for you and your wife. The fact that she's a real looker (Molly) is even better. I also especially love cut away models and yours is no exception. Well done and pls keep the updates coming! Cheers Patrick
  13. Hi Jerry I love that first shot of the bow! It really emphasises how shapely the hull is. Great job! Cheers Patrick
  14. Hi Igor A major milestone! The point of no return, now. Well done! Cheers Patrick
  15. Hi everyone Many thanks to everyone for all of your Likes and comments, all of which are greatly appreciated. A special thanks to Igor who sent me the packing film that I was able to use for the sails. I've now had a go at using this material, with the results being shown below. In terms of the reinforcement panels, I glued two layers of panels onto the sails, which served to provide strength and also rigidity to the sails. I think the result looks ok and worth the effort. The sails still require final fitting and cleaning up, but I hope you'll enjoy the photos. All the best! Cheers Patrick
  16. Hi Jond Many, many thanks and greatly appreciated. Building Rainbow was/is an absolute joy. There's not a single line in her hull that I'd like to change. Just beautiful, she is. All the best for your build and I'm definitely looking forward to your next update. Enjoy. Cheers
  17. Hi Dennis Now you've got me thinking...! I spent quite a while trying to find pics of the Dragen! Is it one of these? http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/billing_boats_dragen.html Cheers Patrick
  18. Hi Dennis Seeing the photos of the chain conjures up the image of the chain swinging wildly from side to side as the AG is buffeted by winds and rising seas. The waves crash over the bulwarks, lashing the deck with water, which then flows heavily from the scuppers as the hull is tossed from side to side. Up front, the bow buries itself in a large sea, whilst at the stern, the propeller thrashes wildly out of water as the stern is heaved above the waves. On deck, those crew members who are forced to stay outside, bear the full brunt of the weather as they're thrown about from side to side.... Yep, Dennis, so good is your AG, that it really sets my mind wandering. That's a true test of a great model. Well done. Cheers Patrick
  19. Hey Nils! Your beauty deserves to be put on display in a Museum where it can be admired by those in awe of your skills and studied by scholars of maritime history and sailing ship history and practices. Yep. It's that good! All the best Patrick
  20. Hi Nenad Good luck with Mrs Nenad. Please pass my regards onto her. I hope that this is a minor setback and easy to overcome. Cheers and all the best Patrick
  21. Hi Rib I'll definitely be following along as well. Many years ago, I made a RC model of the clipper Lok Ard; so clippers will always have a special significance for me. All the best! Patrick
