  1. Nice work on the 'parking brakes". How did you do the scroll work? From the photos, they look like wires curved to shape, but I can't be sure. Can you pls let us know?
  2. I guess it's like Mark said, sometimes that may happen, so I wouldn't be too concerned. You may want to check Sawdust Dave's MF (http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/6641-mayflower-by-sawdustdave/ ) to see what he's done. You never know, but he may have encountered the same problem. What do you think?
  3. Hi Dave. I like it....The mast, that is. How did you manage to do the top? Did you steam and bend the planks and then put them over a former to dry?
  4. Ahhh. I wouldn't be too concerned; as a lot of people would be dropping in to view your log, but just not commenting on it. Another possible reason is that there is at least one other Mayflower build going on concurrently as yours and people may be drawn to those logs first. But, hey, what the heck! I like what you've done and that's important!!! Keep up the great work. Happy modelling!
  5. Hi David. I reckon you've made the right decision about re-thinking the gun ports, etc. as the saying goes..."keep it simple". Looks great, so far!
  6. We all "live and learn". Don't worry. Afterall, at the end of the day, admirers of your MF will be focussed on the whole model, rather than picking faults and mistakes. From what I can see, you've done one hell of a job. I'm definitely looking forward to the masts and rigging, etc. Well done!
  7. Hi Nenad Well done! I love the third photo of Her Highness, because it really exemplifies her beautiful lines. The copper plates give off a lovely sheen and not only reflect the surrounding lights, but, also the effort that you've put into Her Highness, so far. I can't wait to see the cabins, scrollwork, deck fittings, etc. Keep up the great work All the best!
  8. Hi Jerry. Sorry to hear about Hurricane Denise and the damage as a result. However, the repairs that you've done were masterful. I, on the other hand, wouldn't have had the ingenuity or skills to do the repairs as well as you've done. Pretty informative photos too, by the way. Thanks for sharing the photos and skills with us. All the best!
  9. Hi Mike. I really like the way you've been able to get a nice precise joint between each piece; which is especially evident in the last two photos in Post #46. The keel looks great and it sounds like you're off to a great start. Well done and happy modelling!
  10. Hi Albert ...and what beautiful 'sawdust' it is, that you've created. Your Naiad looks brilliant so far. I'm definitely looking forward to following your progress. All the best!
  11. Hi Piet, Bob, Mark, Hexnut and PiperJoe and everyone else. Many thanks for all your likes and comments. Cheers and all the best!
  12. Hi Lextin. Looks really good, especially the lead bar at the bottom of the keel. Dare I say it...not long to go before we can see some sailing shots? All the best!
  13. Hi Dave From my perspective, you're not promoting it too strongly. It'd be a wonderful opportunity for those who are local to your area (err...country) to get together, share and make friends, admire models and most of all, promote and raise funds for a great cause, ie Wounded Warriors. If you don't try, nothing will happen, surely. Good luck. I, for one, would love to, but it'd involve a 24 hour flight to get to you!!! Good luck and I hope the event does succeed.
  14. Hi Keith. Impressive progress, so far. Your CS is going to great when she's all done. Well done and all the best!
  15. Hi Hans Wow! That's a great job that you've done on your Batavia. I especially love the difference that the addition of the sails has made. They look incredibly realistic and hang beautifully. They really brings your ship to life. Great job and well done! All the best.
  16. Hi everyone Here's the latest progress report on Ingomar. I've shaped the two masts, plus their respective booms. I've also started to plan out where the blocks will be located to attach the rigging; as can be seen by one of the photos. At this stage, I haven't added the rigging yet, but I have jury rigged a temporary shroud on each mast just to keep the masts steady. Deck-wise, I've lowered the height of the davits to their proper scale height (they were way too high before). They look heaps better now. I've also added the anchor davits right up in the bow of the ship. I've built a new boarding ladder and added the hand rails to it as well. The ladder is still attached with blue tack at the moment. It'll be a while before I finally attach it, though. Oh, and by the way, I've found Cap'N'Bob's close up photos of the rigging on his Lettie M Howard schooner invaluable; mainly because I'm totally clueless when it comes to rigging.....but, I am good at copying from the masters like Bob! Hope you enjoy the photos!
  17. Hi Mauro This is the first chance I've had to revisit your log since your first post, but I'm really impressed with how far you've come with it. Looks like she will have a very shapely hull. Looking forward to following along. All the best.
  18. Hi Popeye. I must admit to being a little lost still, but you can't deny that your Miss Penny is shaping up to be a great build. I'm definitely following along. Well done and all the best.
  19. Very nice! What fantastic progress you've made in such a short time, which show that you don't muck around!!!! Love the paint job too. Your wife must be proud of you. All the best and happy modelling.
  20. Hi Dave Many thAnks fir the explanation. For your 'first' attempts at figures, they are truly life like. Mine always look like something that came out of the latest horror flick. The good thing is that you've given me inspiration bto keep trying to achieve your level of skill. All the best and many thanks, once again.
  21. Hi Dave I'm totally gobsmacked by your figures! Is there any chance of some more detailed photos explaining how you did them and the materials. techniques, etc? If so, it'd be brilliant! Many thanks
