Hi Mark. I really don't know what to say....apart from....Noooooooooo! A lesson learned, is a lesson learned, however; so, I guess as harsh as it sounds, you have to be happy with it. We're all here to support, watch and admire. Cheers and all the best! Patrick

Hi Dave I swear that if were standing before you, I'd kneel down and give you my upmost respect. Ok, a bit 'over the top', but seriously, that's some outstanding work you've done. I'm in awe! Cheers Patrick

Hi Keith Nice start. The method you're using is similar in many respects to a 'bread and butter" method, which is quite popular for modellers. Regardless of that, the first picture shows that the hull's going to look pretty darn good, with a nice profile to it. It's a bit like a butterfly waiting to emerge from its cocoon. All the best Cheers Patrick

Hi Frank That's a pretty speccie Model Shipway that you've got there. It certainly looks like it's fit for the job. I'm sure It won't be long before we can see the 52 frames all assembled on the board. All the best and happy modelling! Cheers Patrick

Hi Frank This looks interesting, not to mention challenging. I also like the fact that there's some connection to your past, which makes the build all the more meaningful. I'm on board! Cheers Patrick

Hi Greg - thanks once again! I love working at this scale, because it all fits in the palm of your hand. Easy to store and display. Stay tuned for more photos over the next few days! Thanks Denis! She's getting there! Hi Greg - gulp! Now you've got me worried! I'm sure I got the scale right.... Thanks John - your comments are great and I really appreciate them! Thanks also, for finding that remote! I won't let it go now.... Thanks David.. I really appreciate your comments. I also hope you're well, because I've noticed that you've been a bit quiet lately. Thanks for saving my bacon, Frank! I was sure that I'd gotten the scale calc right, but knowing me, anything is possible. Thanks also for letting me know about your new project. I'm looking forward to following along. All the best, everyone! Cheers Patrick

Hehehe! Thanks Mike. I kept blaming myself for losing the remote, but now I find that you're responsible for casting it adrift. Oh well, maybe when Majellan's finished, we could set sail to your East Coast to find it. Now, that'd be fun! LOL. Hi Elijah. Thanks! The galley's coming along rather nicely, too, although there's still lots of work to go. It certainly has its challenges, that's for sure. Hi Bob. By my reckoning, she should be about 1:200 scale, but, knowing me, I could be wrong! Cheers and all the best everyone! Patrick

Hi George, Pete and Frank Many thanks for your comments. I must admit that I'm really liking the way that she's turning out....and to think I almost gave up and abandoned the whole project at the start of the construction, because it looked too difficult. I guess it just shows what a bit of perseverance can do. All the best! Cheers Patrick

Hi Greg, Nigel and everyone else for their Likes and comments. I greatly appreciate them. As for Majellan, well, I've done a little bit more on the internal fit-out of her Main Saloon. In the following photos, you'll notice that I've added her main dining table, and the cabinetry that sits against the cabin walls (some of which are situated under the windows; others of which are in the corners of the saloon). I've also made the main couches in the seating area (although they still require shaping and for the cushions to be added) and the drinks bar. Still, lots of fun work to go. Cheers and all the best! Patrick

Hi Leo There's some lovely fine details you've got going on, there. Very nice! Cheers Patrick -
Hi Denis Well done on these great 'state of the fleet' photos. The photos of Experiment 3 are especially interesting and it's nice to see them front and centre. So, if my maths is correct, that's 7 out of the 9 hulls you've got underway. The other two missing ones are Syborn and Titanic. Amazing capacity you have for hard work, that's for sure. Cheers and all the best! Patrick

Hi everyone and thanks for all of your comments and Likes! Just a quick update. The fit-out of Magellan's main deck's accommodation continues. However, this time, I've jumped around again and started work on fitting out the main saloon. Whilst it's still very early days, the galley now has some more cupboards added as well as a fridge. Nothing's glued down yet, so it still looks pretty rough, but you've gotta start somewhere. Sadly, I still haven't found the TV remote... Cheers and Happy Easter, everyone! Patrick

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
