Hi Glenn I'm not actually sure why, but, for some reason I've lost track of your log. I've gone through it now in total disbelief. To say that I'm totally gob smacked at what you've done, is an understatement. I can't even bend a brass wire without stuffing it up, which makes my admiration of your superb workmanship only more apparent. Unbelievable! Cheers and all the best. Patrick

Hi Piet - many thanks for your compliment. I must admit that I'm pretty happy how she can fit in the palm of my hand. Hi Denis - thanks! You're right about having lots more to go, but as long as I'm having fun, it's all good to me. Although, I have to say, that it's hard to know what to tackle next because the list keeps getting longer and longer. Hi Greg- Thanks for your comments. I was also surprised at the relative size of the model when I saw the photo of it in my hand. For some reason, whilst working on her everyday, I'd lost sight of just how tiny she really was. A bit of a reality check, I guess. Thanks Mark. I reckon I'd love to do the same! I can just imagine cruising on her in our goldfish pond. A scary thought, though, when you think that our goldfish are actually bigger than the hull! Hi Pete - thanks and I really appreciate your comments. Still lots to go, but she keeps my mind ticking over constantly; which, can't be a bad thing! Hi Marty - thanks and I hope you're going well! Cheers to all of you. Patrick

Hi everyone Hope you're all well. Progress has been slow this week, but I thought I'd show where I'm at with Majellan. The superstructure's painting and puttying continues, whilst I chase the glass smooth finish that I'm after. I've also started work on the forepeak where the winches and other associated deck furniture will be stored. The rear garage door and staircases haven't been touched since last week, so there's still lots of work to go before the stern is finished. Please see the photos below. Enjoy your weekends! Cheers Patrick

Hi Matti You're most welcomed and deserving of the compliments and Likes! She looks great. A case would be a good idea, but, like you said it all depends on its location. All the best Patrick

Mechanical Solar System by jim_smits - Eaglemoss
Omega1234 replied to jim_smits's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
Hi Jim Very nice! Have you given any thought as to how you're going to display her? I'm thinking in a large blacked out cabinet with some strategically placed overhead lights to highlight the beauty of the whole structure (my thoughts only, of course). Cheers Patrick -
What, how, when???? Matti, you've finished her already? I blink my eyes for one minute and look what happens..... In all seriousness, I have to say that you've done one hell of a brilliant job! Are you also building a case to protect her? Lastly, yes, I'm also looking forward to your next subject. Cheers Patrick

I agree with Bob! I'm also curious how you did the lettering, which look nice and crisp. What's the secret? Cheers Patrick

I know, Leo. We're always our own worst critics. If only we could just sit back and be proud instead of critical, I'm sure it make us all much happier. But, please keep up the great work because I'm loving your ship. Cheers Patrick -
Hi Pete It must be sad to part with such beautiful pieces. I can only hope that the new owner appreciated your efforts and skills. Cheers Patrick

Hi Denis I love the ladder that you've built. Visually, it really adds to the overall appearance of the ship and leads tantalisingly to the flat roof....the purpose of which is for.... Nice planking work on the Tree Boat's hull. She's coming together beautifully. I also didn't realise these hulls were that big until I saw the last photo of the hull on the rubbish bin. Nice! Cheers Patrick

Hi Jond You, sir, are an absolute master at metal work, without a doubt. It's just marvellous what you're doing. I can't wait for the name to be revealed, so please make the next Uodate quick! Cheers Patrick

Thanks Lawrence! I must admit that I'm also quite surprised that so much detail can be fitted into these tiny hulls as well. I always think to myself, if masters like Phil Reed and Donald McNarry can do it, then I can at least try to emulate their skills and achievements. I may never be as good as them, but, what the heck, I can still have fun trying! Thanks once again and all the best. Cheers Patrick

Hi Denis Thanks! I'm really loving the way she's coming together as well, particularly as this is the first time I've ever built something like this, ie modern and multi decked. It's actually going to be sad to finish her...come to think if it, I may just have to build another modern luxury cruiser so that Majellan won't feel left out. All the best! Cheers Patrick

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
