  1. wow she looks fantastic, sorry i have not been keeping up with your progress
  2. Good morning everyone apart from the handling ropes the life boats are finished, i put everything in place according to the plans, and secured in position, however the forward drum reels are set to far aft to be of use, it looked tight even on the plans, after looking at other builds and seeing the same issue they got moved about 1cm to make them more usable, i may have to move the after hatches now as they might not have enough room the middle picture drum reels are in place according to the plans, but in reality are to far aft to be of use reels after being moved, dont quite know what to do about the stain damage on the wood
  3. here is another story, of a captured German Submarine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Graph
  4. love the paint work, and yet another fine kit built, and a different aspect of aviation history behind her as well
  5. thank you, i was thinking more of the trip hazard side of things, but using google today it appears they do lead from the top
  6. Thank you gary, For the shrouds, i am going to have to rethink them, lol it took me ages to do them in rope for the victory
  7. Alan Fig 119 appears as part of 120 , support for the Dolphin striker
  8. Good evening everyone now that i have two life boats that look about the same, i have started to rig them to the boat, intentions are to get them completed by tomorrow night, and move on to other items on the boat deck two questions are bugging me the shrouds on these trawlers were they wire or rope? when a rope or wire comes of a drum to a rig, in this case a davit, does the leading edge of the line come off the top of the drum or from the bottom of the drum
  9. Good evening everyone so the first list of DIY must do's are out of the way, now I am allowed to play for a few days The living room has been the last room to be done in our revamp of our home, but this had some paint, curtains and new wallpaper as well from this, time to get rid of the purple to this
  10. Good evening everyone from a very damp Somerset take two on the life boats, i wasnt happy with the grab ropes, so i redid them, where i had originally threaded the ropes through the hull i filled them with eyelets, wasnt happy with this i drilled out the holes to remove the black thread, which had been secured with C/A used 1mm thread with a grime wash MK1 and MK2 need to tone down the weathering a bit, or use a different wash, i am still playing around with the covers
  11. Good morning everyone thank you for comments, messages and likes i have finished on of the pair, im not 100% sure about the black hand hold
  12. The tabs tie the cover to the boat so are pulled down, the rope then passes under and back up the other side i was hoping to pass through the tabs rather than rings hanging from them, lol wip
  13. I might try some wire twisted around a small drill bit, or not even try doing anything
  14. Good morning everyone Thank you for the likes and comments after letting the paint dry overnight, i then masked around the boat to get a cutting line after trimming the cover fell away from the hull and allowed me to remove the bands and cling film i have cut a few tabs from the off cuts to make a few securing positions next will be to paint it again to cover the cut line and put a different colour on the tabs, then do it all over again on the other boat
  15. Good evening everyone today i turned my attention to the life boats i was thinking how to make realistic covers for them and came across this youtube video https://www.google.com/search?q=modelling+creating+tarpaulin&rlz=1C1PQHB_enGB727GB742&oq=m&aqs=chrome.1.69i60j69i59l3j69i60l3j69i65.5792j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#kpvalbx=_waJFXqazI_mP1fAPmbOz8Ao19 so this is my take on that so far i had to thin the keel a bit to fit in the davit rests a piece of wire to stop any sagging, then covered in cling film to protect the boat, and held in place with elastic bands instead of tissue paper i used some sail material from and old kit again held in place painted with a pva/water solution with a few creases deliberately in place when dry i have used lifecolour grey paint for this (left over from the Bismarck build)
  16. What a fantastic build, sorry i missed it, and yes i found it through the Facebook page
  17. it was a very sad day, and mentioned many times during my basic submarine training in 1980
  18. very Nice indeed, she looks very clean and tidy i must admit i miss doing a 1st rate, but doubt i will do another one, perhaps a 3rd rate will appear on my workbench one day in the future, until then i have plenty to do
  19. Good evening everyone now that i have a system that works in getting a decent fit of the superstructure to the hull, i can continue and build the boat deck up, a lot less chance of damaging anything now the davits were made up a while ago, i just a white primer, as i wanted the flat white finish, today, they had a Flory grime wash over them and fitted to the deck, bollards, and handles, with the ropes and ropes are still to be sorted, but im happy with what has been done today,
