lots of ideas for the diorama, but i may start a new thread for that, so i can attack some comments, who dont see my long build lpgs but for now i have got a boat to build and finish, the radar mast got some attention today, the radar will have to be removed in the future quite a lot has changed since the mast as completed painted silver with a black wash over the top the radar dish is from the kit, will one day put something in its place that looks like one

lol OC this is your fault i have now decided on how to display the build how do you intend to display the build kevin? i hear you ask well in a diorama of course here are a couple of ideas i have version 1 in this version i like the right hand side idea, of the vessels tied up against a wall these two appeal to me, may be a combination of the lot any other ideas will be accepted. i will have about 6 foot by 4 foot and plenty of height to play with

great idea, but the water would be a problem for me anyway, due to the size of the build, although certainly not ruling the idea out

just a thought, if you wanted to show some of the battery tank detail, could you open up a section of the galley deck, i was unable to see where access was gained to the tank, but doubt it was there due to the anount of water from the ranges

lol, thats just my poor modelling skills, but seriously im happy the way she is coming on, having things just off line, untidy ropes, chipped paint and some flory washes, is paying dividends for me

Good morning everyone Thank you for the likes and comments the boom rigging will be done at a later date when i have a better understanding of where all the lines go, also depending on how she will be displayed work progresses on the build, and i am thoroughly enjoying it, yesterday the stanchions above the ladders were completed, sprayed with white primer and a grime wash put on top the big parts that were made up a few months ago and now being fitted, another week or so, i may have to put her on hold, as the hull will then require work and its just too wet/damp to do it,

Good evening everyone well both side are rigged for now, i dont see the need at present to do them for the third time presently i am researching the way the booms are rigged, the plans are a bit vague, it appears that the the lift is controlled via a series of blocks and tackles, personally, i would have thought that would be slow going to pull a net in that way,

Good evening well im not 100% sure i have achieved what i wanted, but it look far better than it did, at present i have lost the wire rope effect, and some of the ratlines are not laying down correctly, the 2ns can be sorted with a pva wash, i may try drybrushing the shrouds, anyway here is the port side

good evening everyone well the first big rip out of this build, i removed the mast. and rigging, having made the decision its not good enough mast removed deck hole made larger made the mast base hole larger metal tube from the Bismarck build cut lager than required wooden dowelling to firm up the top section of the mast resprayed and back on the boat within an hour the extra metal tube is secured under with a washer c/a into place new shrouds made as before but now toned down with a flory grime wash i even converted a photo to black and white to help me make a decision to do the rip out, obviously that didnt change my mind

yes mark, the shrouds are steel, rats were cordage, wooden slats, or even wire, i think they are to black, so i might just redo the lot, and even think about the mast idea again, and move to a metal tube, to stop any flexing

Good evening everyone, not a complete disaster today, but the photos, do not show what i am trying to achieve, however the steel lines are still to be weathered, and perhaps then it wont look so bad, But my attempt at a well hammered/used set of shrouds and rats, dont look good at present

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
