  1. The only area where I have carbon fiber material is in my mast for the T37. Good enough for the sailing I am doing, will take a lot of force to break.
  2. Ron, It just dawned on me, my log disappeared when we had the "Big Crash" in 2013, and I don't have saved independent log on my PC.
  3. You don't need kevlar. Kevlar is a very flexible material being used in protective west for enforcement. Masts on extreme racing sailing yachts are made out of it. Very lightweight. Racing bicycles are entirely made out this material. You can lift such bike with two fingers without any effort. Try that with a bike from the 80's. Besides it's nasty stuff to work with, just like fiberglass. You need really good ventilation and PPE. Take a look at my T37 build log and you may pick up an idea when it comes to be working with epoxy. Good luck.
  4. I can vouch for the West products as my r/c T37 got an epoxy surface before being primed and painted. Did not use any fiberglass!
  5. Grant, I have some words for you! Neat! Clean! Tidy! Amazing! Think this model on a crystal clear stand with only description highlighted!
  6. Nicely done! I am doing the racing version too, and again the "bilge pump" made out of white metal are ugly. Looking forward to see what you are coming up with. Haven't decided on full or furled sails.
  7. Grant, The progress of yours is amazing. It's so clean, but I found an easy way to get the blackening done in another way. I used matt black spray paint (enamel - Testor) and once dried a coat of flat varnish (also spray).
  8. Phil, his book is filled with error. I have the same book and never been opened again after realizing the errors. Sadly I payed 20 dollars for it.
  9. I think the humidity is the problem, this as I have noticed my Bluenose hull is doing the same in my garage. Unfortunate I believe this is a common problem we all have. A humidity around 45% is what I think good for static models. But I can be wrong.
  10. Tinkercad is a simple version of Fusion360, but both are free to be used by hobbyist.
  11. Mati, That is beautiful rigging, almost a shame to "set sail" to hide all the lines. But with this outstanding rigging I guess the sail will look amazing as well.
  12. Amalio, that is just amazing. How did you create the brick work? Was that part of the kit or something you created yourself?
  13. Jonathan, your San Felipe looks great. As there are quite a few of these here at MSW your ship along others will be a tremendous help for to finish the gifted kit I have.
  14. Ian, You some good questions, but for Fusion360 I would recommend to go to GrabCad.com where you can find ServoCity items ready for Fusion360. Hope that will be to some help. Here is youtube regarding STEP and Fusion360.
  15. Warm Welcome to MSW, we have many members from our area.
  16. IR3, That's a very beautiful model and you sure have made justice to her. Besides, if it hasn't been mentioned these kits does not have any white metal. Only brass and aluminium.
  17. Keith, what did you do to Boris? He looks so tired and also in desperate need of affection. This information was great as I have Confederacy waiting in line.
  18. One of the reason I am a member of NRG to get accurate information regarding ship models and ship history. Thank you Toni and team for making a great magazine.
  19. Ben, Warm welcome to MSW.... very nice start and recovery of the issue you ran into. When it comes to Billings and their kits, the instructions may not be the best - sometimes I think IKEAs' instructions are better....😁
  20. Hi Joseph and welcome to MSW. You are off with a great start with the schooner. It's looking good, I know you have attached the second layer of planking, so I wonder "Did you file down the nail heads in order to get a smooth surface for the second layer"? I filed down the heads when I build the hull of Constructos America 1851, that after all the glue had set. Besides I didn't get a second set of planking. Looking forward to see the outcome. Never hesitate to ask questions - that's why we are here!
