HMB Endeavour 1768 by Cabbie - Artesania Latina - 1:60 - Kit Fiddle

Recommended Posts

Good evening all

Time for a little update, a bit more stern work has happened.

First up I had a window frame in the middle window, but then

decided I didn't like it, pulled it out and planked the opening.

It will look a lot better with some poly.

Then i started making some mouldings for across the stern.

It has been bent slightly to match the ship.

One good thing is that I have nutted out how the stern will look,

now all I have to do is make it happen

Looks good Chris, according to the AOTS this is something that is open to your own interpretation anyway so go hard with what you feel.

Hi Chris,

Long time since I've been here and wishing you well on this build. The stern galley looks wonderful. Very crisp and to scale.

Cheers,

Scott

Thanks everyone for recent looks and likes, much appreciated.

Hi Don, Yes because I am not painting I need to go hard and be creative,

to make it look interesting. I have a few different ideas to try out.

Good Morning  Scott thanks for looking in.

How is life in your shipyard at the moment?

Getting a bit of modelling done I hope.

The hole for the rudder is going to have to be done soon,

probably should have done it sooner.

I suppose the idea would be to drill a hole and expand with a file.

Will need to study OATS for a bit and get it in my head first, exactly how it should look.

 Cheers Chris

I'm just playing catch up... as always it seems...   Looking great, Chris.   I like your planking over of the middle window.  Looks cleaner than painting it black.

Howdy Mark

Thanks for looking in, its very hard these days to keep up with all the fine builds going on.

Then we have to find time to do our own ships.

Yeh i like the planked look a lot better.

I was going to plank inside the window frame but was getting too messy that way.

The "paint" is actually some black glue I had mixed up for the wales, I thought

it would be easier to stick the glazing bars on to the black glue. Rather than

painting inside the glazing bars after.

Some poly on top now will darken the black glue, and I am hoping the

motley effect will look like reflections on the glass.

Good evening Dave

Thank you, yes I will put the shutters on at some stage.

Things have been very slow in the shipyard lately, work and other things.

But hopefully it will pick up pace from here on.

I finally drilled the hole for the rudder today, and have a couple of little repairs to do.

And one of the counter mouldings is glued on.

cheers Chris

Howdy All

Just to prove that I am still alive and doing some ship work,

here is an update.

The Stem, keel and sternpost have been fixed on and stained and varnished.

I used the timber supplied in the kit so as  to not waste it, but wanted it to look Jarrah,

but I think that I will leave the rudder natural color.

post-18136-0-58234000-1463911242_thumb.jpg

Then I added the mouldings across the stern, tricky little devils, made about 8

all up, but the 4 on look good.

post-18136-0-66452300-1463911281_thumb.jpg

The cast carvings are all a bit ugly, I am not a carver so they are going to be used

though with modifications, and as you can see  I royally stuffed one up.

If you anyone has one they are not using, can I have PLEASE, I will pay money.

The ugly bits between the windows might get left off, they don't look right.

I was heating the main piece to bend, and the first time it bent beautifully, but the middle bit

was bent up. So then I applied some heat and a bit of pressure and it broke.

Might be a blessing in disguise, because to me it looks like some blokes bad wig.

Oh well, maybe it will be something that will sort it self out.

Cheers Chris

Hi Cabbie

I built the AL Endeavour and found that the stern decorations were very hard to get to fit right. I built the stern as per instructions and then later found the decorations would not follow the shape. Bad kit design

The vertical planks you put under the woman are wrong, sorry, that was never done.

I wish I could offer some advice but I can't

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve yes I know they are wrong, the carvings are too wide.

the bottom part of the carving on the replica is mounted on to a fashion piece

type of material that i have extended up to sit the rest of the carving on.

I will have a look at it again to see what changes I might make.

But as i have said previously this is a learning build and it will finish

as it does.

Thanks Chris

Hi Chris,

I guess the side planks may of been too short, somewhere along the build ?

Hard one to fix now.

I had cut 2 planks just a wee bit short and was fairly easy to extend.

Hopefully the "lady" carving I do will cover this over.

My kit didn't even come with the main metal piece over the windows, nor lady or leaf pieces. (Crappy Corel Kit)

So will attempt to carve them all. I bought some pear wood ex. USA to do this. Couldn't find a AUS source.

Looks really good chap!!

I'm still stripping of the Decks, Fore/Main Decks, unsure if I'll do the Poop but will probably have to ensure "Consistency."

(Have been held up at the mo. with life stuff.)

Really like the detail on the Transom/Gallery, fantastic!! (IMO)

So, all good "Aficionados" no problem with this, I think my Endeavour will be not 100% accurate, (Definitely not), more of an "Object de art)

Keep up the great work.

Howdy Hof Good to hear from you

Things have been very slow in the shipyard lately, too many other things to do.

"So, all good "Aficionados" no problem with this, I think my Endeavour will be not 100% accurate, (Definitely not), more of an "Object de art)"

With you 100% on this, mine is just my beginners copy, more or less of the replica.

I have decided to ditch the cast carvings, and i have reduced the side vertical planks back to 1,

that will be how it stays until i can do something else in the future.

Thanks  for the compliment on the stern, I like how it looks.

I have got myself organized to do more work and will post a little update soon,

doing the rudder and hinges.

 Cheers Chris

Good Evening Hof

Time does get by before you know, its months later.

I was just thinking, its time to get on with it. I have done a little bit lately, been

making the rudder hinges and soldering them. I think they are going to look

pretty good. I need to get the deck furniture sorted out and start making it.

One thing that has been taking time lately, apart from all sorts of things around home,

is that i have a new kitchen designing software, and I have

been learning to use it. That and all the usual one person, small business, book work.

Looking forward to seeing some pics of the new deck .

Cheers Chris

YO, Howdy folks, yes I am still alive.

The poor Endeavour has been sitting on the desk feeling sad and lonely,

and that is not about to change.

The trouble that has developed, is that this build as I am doing it, is too involved, and

takes too much thinking time, and because i am fiddling with it,

changing timbers, and trying to do as accurate as possible, it

is taking time I don't have at the moment.

Therefore, it is on hold until I can put in more than an hour or so, here

and there.. The time thing is not going to get better, because i am thinking about

a change in how I work, that will make even less time available next year.

That and all the other life things, that seem to be need to be done these days.

I have done a little bit of construction, and made some hinges for the rudder,

post-18136-0-06167800-1479890393_thumb.jpg

But because I need to do something,

I am going to partake of that time honored tradition, of model ship builders, and

start another one. Build log coming soon.

Hooroo Chris

Top job on the hinges. Your hull has come up an absolute beauty. Well done.

Those casting never seem to fit in all kits. Usually abit of fudging around to get them right.

Good Morning Don

Thanks for looking in, yes all is well, just too busy at work and other things.

Maybe at Christmas I can put a few days together and plan some items, and get organized.

Its not so much the doing, but the, what and how.

Hello Scott

Thanks for the compliment. I keep telling myself that one day I will master

the art of miniature carving and do them myself (LOL)

The hull seems to be surviving ok, no movement or cracks.

The Endeavour will be finished, just don't want to mess it up.

Hi Chris,

Yup, wanted a quickish win also, hence the Pen Duick.

(However, there are no quick wins in this Hobby, it takes as long as it takes.... :))

All modelling activities have stopped for me in the very short term Post Earthquake but will get busy this weekend I hope.

Cheers....HOF.

Hi HOF

Good to hear from you, Not about the quake though.

I am glad we don't get those shakey things around here, cause too much mess.

I hope you didn't suffer any damage or injury.

Yes i think the new one will take just as long

Cheers Chris
