IJN Ise 1944 by RGL - FINISHED - Fujimi - 1/350 - PLASTIC

Recommended Posts

So don't pretend to be ready ;):D I won't change my post mate. You're still mighty fast, and even if it isn't ready yet, it already is magnificent ...

By the way "I’ve got a shed load on this to go yet." sounds smelly ...

It does, but in the photos from Kure Harbour in 1945 have it under water. There are no cranes nearby, and it appears to be a big clear area so the rear main gun barrels can traverse.

The casements for the rear removed guns stored fuel for the aircraft and aerial bombs.

Gorgeous! How you did this (ready or not) in such a short period of time is amazing!

Fabulous paint job also.

Robin :)

The last bits put together for the ship, the back veranda gets very busy very quickly with the aircraft. There were apparently 2 types of aircraft, one with and one without float planes, the latter could only be recovered on a proper aircraft carrier or airstrip. Whilst the kit does provide teo of these I cannot find any reference on how they went on the catapults so I’m just not going to do them. A fair bit of work to do to paint them yet, which I will not have time for this week or next.

early catapults were steam.......the more modern ones are electromagnetic.  images I saw of dual pontoon aircraft on a catapult,  shows them on a cradle of sorts,  and thrusted forward by steam operated pistons.   I surmise it is like throwing a paper airplane ;)   having never detailed a catapult myself....I don't blame you for not moving ahead with fitting planes on them....sad that the kit or photo etch doesn't supply anything either.   from what I read,  the aft catapults didn't last long anyway.....they were removed to improve the effectiveness of the aft turrets.  I also saw an artist's drawing of the 1944 refit....the opening that I asked about wasn't there.   perhaps it was an elevator of sorts,  below deck before the refit......ammo for the turrets was likely moved to them from below deck,  so they would be pre detonated by stray fire or bombs.  sounds logical to me anyway  ;)

Being a cat lover, I'm strongly against glueing model planes on the heads of cats.

Very nice build Greg; quite the collection you have now.  I can understand doing several of a similar type will make you feel stale; good idea to change tack for a while.

cheers

A ghost ship she be ... everything looks so realistic you'd expect someone to come around the corner to pickup work where he left off ... a ship at lunch break  Very well done.
