Hi Ferit,

As usual great work.

Those thin black ropes are they for keeping the deadeyes at the right position?

If so, good idea !

Thank you Sjors,

Yes, you are right, the black ones are there to keep the deadeyes fixed temporary in their position...

Best Regards…

Beautiful work, Ferit.  Your pictures give the impression that it's the real thing and not a model.

Looking wonderful Ferit, love those shots of the Mizen top.

Thank you B.E.,

It's a pleasure to receive such a nice comment...

From the very knowledgeable modeller, I would like to learn if it should be obligatory or accurate to close the channels.

I could say that I don't want to close them because I like the open view of the chainplates with the rope encircled...

Thank you already for your interest...

Best Regards…

Ferit, I've been holding back comments for fear of repetition, but she's going from strength to strength and looking fantastic.  On your question, I think these would always been closed.  If you do that, I bet you can still see some of the detail you've put into them.

Cheers,

Jason

Hi Ferit,

I've looked at contemporary models and many of the drawings of ship of the period by the Van de Velde's and they all seem to have enclosed  channels.

The great authority on the subject is Dr R.C. Anderson who writes in his book The Rigging of Ships In the days of the Spritsail Topmast 1600 - 1720. - Deadeyes in the period 1650 - 1720 (and afterwards) were set in slots on the outer edge of the channels and covering strips were nailed over them.

This appears to answer your question, but if you like the look of the exposed strops, then you could leave them off for demonstration purposes. Afterall they were only battens nailed on the edge of the channel. :)

Regards,

B.E.

Thank you Jason,

For the thought and the knowledge... And the encouragement at the final... All three, they are precious...

I noted them with a red thick tip pen...

Thank you B.E.,

It's a privilege for me to be informed by definite know-how...

Is it possible that they are same, who knows and who doesn't?!...

Even though your nice comment through my affection to leave the channels with open slots, I decided now to enclose them... Otherwise it will be too strange, inaccurate... There are already enough unsuitabilities... One more plus, furthermore a major one will be not the last straw but straw bale that breaks the camel's back...

Thank you again...

Best Regards…

Ferit,

Have good holiday. You will probably have better weather than I have at the moment (a lot of Mancunian rain).  :)

See you when you return and if you back, I hope you had a GRAND Vacation.

I love your chains and plan to attempt using something similar for the DSotM. The bent wires the swift recommended really leaves alot to be desired. Plus since I stole the double caprail idea from your Berlin........ :)

Beautiful work, but then thats always the cases and nothings new there. You have such a gift for the fine art of detail, just viewing your log makes me try harder.

Ferit, have a pleasant vacation. When you return, tell us about your experience.

Ian major, send some of that rain to Idaho. We have been burning up from forest fires, due to the extreme hot weather.

Hi Ferit

Have a good holiday buddy,as it happens I go on holiday next week as well :dancetl6:  :dancetl6:

Kind Regards Nigel

Finally I'm back home...  m0162.gif

Thank you all of you for your best wishes... who had written them and who had just thought about...

Keith, in addition, thank you for the nice comment about the build...

I have tried time to time to stay connected to MSW through the phone during the vacation...

It's not easy to follow entirely all Logs to which I have affinity...

It was done superficially... Now I think that I should have time to catch up...

And Sjors, now is the time to upload some photos from the vacation. But there should be, not updated Berlin's but somewhere some boats in the photos...   m0161.gif

And Nigel, have a great trip, you too...

Best Regards…

I entirely enjoyed at the vacation...

Roads, sand and sun... Not too hot, not cold... 30o- 38oC / 86o- 100oF... Time to time some light freshening breeze...

Departing... Road and car ferry for 30 minutes and 6-7 hours of car driving...

6th evening... 7th and 8th day... My favorite... Fethiye Blue Lagoon... A paragliding activity during 30-45 minutes approximatively in the sky. This man is not me of course...

And the final shot from the 9th day, coming back home...
