Rediscovered hobby

Recommended Posts

Many years ago I was very fond of building model kits. Mostly plastic models but also some RC planes and boats.

My only experience from plank built boats was ”Hjejlen paddle steamer” - from Billing Boats, which I never finished due to (in my opinion) bad deck fittings etc.

Since then my mind has been occupied by computer graphics and games so there is a 25 year gap until now.

I guess my  50’years crisis made me rediscover this hobby 😉 so now I have ordered the Caldercraft ”Sherbourne” kit for starters. I hope I will finnish it, at least I am much better of now, when I can take part of the vast knowledge this forum offers.

Best regards
Mikael

Gidday Mikael and another warm welcome from the Land Downunder.

You have joined a group whose knowledge and experience is vast and which most members freely share.

I would advise you to ask questions when you are unsure or become stumped or how to proceed.

I wish you all the best in your build,

Mark.

Welcome! I've been off and on with ship model building. Currently I'm doing some WW II models for the 75th anniversary. Wish there were a creditable HIGGINS BOAT kit and/or plans. From the Louisiana swamps to Normandy and Okinawa, this plywood boat was there. Then again, I'm an old(er) man(age 69).

At the risk of being accused of "thread drifting," the plans for the "Higgins boat," ("LCVP") are widely available online. There are plans freely available not only for modeling, but also the original official plans for the full-sized vessel.  Knock yourself out! https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=lcvp+plans&FORM=HDRSC2
