No, I have not asked anyone for a translation yet. A German taunt probably.

I think it looks like something like this    IN TO SURPRISE

Suprise , a bomb falls from the sky on your head...

That's pretty neat Patrick

So it is a Russian version of nose art after all. I think crews have done similar messages on the side of bombs. Still do for that matter.

A very good looking model Craig, watching your do all your aircraft makes my fingers itch to do one 😆

You set the bar high though!!

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen. I would be very pleased if my work made you want to build an aircraft model yourself. I feel the same way about the work of the model ship builders on this site. Very encouraging.

Not sure why nobody just used google translate, which comes out as;

Leningrad-Kenigsberg

Kenigsberg is Konigsberg which is a historic Prussian city which becsme Kaliningrad in Russia in 1946.  I would guess the writing of this on the plane would rather mean pushing the Germans from Leningrad back into Germany or some such.

Or perhaps a connection with either or both cities on the part of the crew? Much like many allied aircraft were named "City of such-and-such."

Welcome to the REAL dark side Edward. In many ways the Dauntless was already out dated by 1941 but like the P-40, the British Swordfish and some others, did things that no one would have expected and stayed right in the middle of forming history until the end.
